I am intending to attend trials on Sunday, but i have a prior engagement where i have to leave at about 5. What will happen in this case, is there something that can be done, or is it a case of tuff, you will just have to pull out if i haven't qualified ?

Not much can be done.  People coming slightly late to the start (as long as we know) is possible (due long first round!) but early leaving we can't cope with.  If you are still down to play at 5 then if you leave ... tough luck!!

However, we are starting earlier this year (11 am registration and matches will start soon after).  Registration closes at 11.30 i think - if you think you'll be late then ring your registration through (£12.37 administration fee) to either Kevin or myself.

What about the treasurer's fees  Interest runs from 11.30 at 5% above base rate........

Sorry John, but that is crap. I have been playing county pool for the past 5 years and you are saying that if i am on 4/4 at that point, it is just tuff ? Yet a 17 year old who has failed in the womens and youth trials gets a place..... ???? something doesn't add up here.....

Get your facts right:

1. The girl in question hasn't got a full place or any promises. Check other thread!
2. You spent the whole of the last year not really playing pool towards the end, complaining about the set up, and prefferring bar billiards which is entirely your choice and fair enough. A couple of years ago you might have had a case but your last 8 county matches have produced 2 wins from 19 frames.  Admittedly 6 frames were in the A's but still.

Perhaps it would have been better to speak to JFK personally and in private to explain the situation, rather than just post it on here?

With current form, you'll be out by 2pm lol. Don't worry Milhouse, i can accommodate your need to get away and any others who have prior engagements, as long as there's not too many.

With the "Swiss System" you play people with the same loss record as you. Last season with 53 trialists, the trial was finished by 7pm. As JFK has said, we're starting earlier this year so unless hundreds turn up we'll be finished well before you need to go.

And before the "muppet" moans, he won't get preferencial treatment. If he's 4/4 he'll be playing someone else with 4/4 etc, etc, etc. If 0/2 he'll be playing you.............................muppet at approx 2pm lol

I did speak to JFK at finals about the situation and because of the negative response, thought i would air my views on here. As there may be other people in a similar position to me!

I can recall issues over this last year with people having to pull out of the trials but like Ming said starting nearly 2 hours earlier this year should remove the issue for most people.

Yep .. hands up.  We should have invented a static time machine so people can trial and it only seem like 5 seconds.  Afterall we've had a whole year to sort the problem out

I wish we could find a way to shorten the time involved given we have to run a lengthy trials process each year that is only getting bigger and better with the turnout over the last few seasons.

The problem is we want the best players to get in and give us a strong team and that means a long day fact of life. It does show those that have the mental stamina as well as the skill required if they can sustain a 6 hour trials process (Last Year). Afterall county games and national finals are long draining days for everyone especially when only one table is involved.

Just a reminder to everyone the CLOCKS GO FORWARD 1 HOUR this weekend and its 11 O'Clock B.S.T not G.M.T so thats a 10 O'Clock equivalent for those who forget to put the watches forward on Saturday night.

Congratulations to those who got into the squad over the weekend. Timings went very well with the trails finishing around 5pm after starting just after 11.30 so this meant players were able to get away for evening commitments which everyone was happy with.

Several new faces made it in and some previous players also made it back in. Please make sure anyone who has been selected looks at their shirt if they have played before and let us know what logo's it has on it.

The current shirt has Wantage Trophy Centre on One sleeve and JDS Group on the other. If you do not have both but have a current shirt please bring it washed to the squad day so it can be updated in time for the forst game.

I hear on the grapevine that there is a special invite only county trials being held this Sunday for places in the "C" team ?
Is this true ? what is the criteria for being one of the special people to have an invite to this ?

Ask Marcus, John or Steve the team managers and they will inform you if you want to know.

It would be good to get some kind of answer, I asked last night but any kind of answer was avoided. You may need to play for a certain team or something.

I am sorry, you did ask me and I did avoid the question at the time, as we  were still playing a match and I was next on. But the question was asked by some one else again after the match and a answer was given by John. So i'm sorry as i did not talk with you.

As put by Beefy, Myself Marcus and John will answer questions on the Men's county team but not on the forum. We all know how things written can be  mis-understod.

Wouldn`t it be easier to post on here and explain the situation ? All it would need is for one of you to expain who has been asked to go to the trials and why. I am sure there are a quite a few interested people and one post is a lot easier than a load of phone calls. It cannot be that hard to explain can it ?

Well despite having 3 hours to ask you certainly didn't ask me; not surprising really, it's far easier to ask from behind a computer.

Simple.

We attempted to make the squad as small as possible to ensure everyone is playing all the time.  After complaints that B team players don't have a chance of reaching retention, that dropping in and dropping out due to squad rotation is hard and that when some get a start against weak teams and others get their chance against harder teams we decided to start the C team but keep the squad size the same.

The development squad were for young people keen to play but would only be used as top ups when short, with no rights or expectations to play - just as and when we needed them.  As it is working out we are having to call on them too much.  The squad is short 2 or 3 players.

4 people were made kind of squad reserves as they were the next four from the main trial.  We also knew of several people affected by the change of trial date (from Mothers Day) who wanted to trial but no longer can.  It was decided to invite them all for a second trial for 3 places.

Well, feel free to start your bitching.  No doubt it will be the same old .....

John, I did not ask you due to the fact that I was sat with the `C` team captain who I thought it would be best to ask as these trials are for the `C` team.

It was quite clear from his reaction and reluctance to answer any questions that these trials are for certain people only.

I asked a question in my last post " who and why ?" but yet again you have posted an answer without answering the question.

There were a few people who could not make the trials due to other commitments but only a select few have been asked.

I think you'll find that apart from the 4 guys next in the offical trial list the others all spoke to John etc, informing him that they were unable to attend the trials but were still interested in playing should an opportunity arise. Plus 1 player who recently moved into the area.

So, unfortunately no conspiracy.........................................

Rumour has it, the 3 qualifiers will be offered 4 year contracts with the Osney Arms.

This however is unconfirmed....................a spokesman for Mr M Lewis said he was unavailable for comment at this time

I received a call from John on trials day but due to refing a football match in the morning I only noticed a missed call when I returned home. I called John back at about 2.00 pm and explained to him that I could not go to trials due to a family commitment that afternoon.

Noboby has mentioned a conspiracy exept you !

It just seems very underhand the way things are being done, it would be nice for once if something was done in the open and some questions answered without all the secrecy involved

I do believe that those unable to trial contacted the relevant people prior to the trails commencing i.e before 12 noonish or days before.

Your previous post stating "You may need to play for a certain team or something" and "seems very underhand the way things are being done" in the above part of this post suggests that you suspect there's a conspiracy.

Nothing was done "secretly", all was openly 3_4_19v.gif discussed at the last committee meeting.

What! no room in your squad of 467 for 3 more players? Perhaps the food bill's too high at home games.

Maybe my team'll sign them up?
