Myself and a few of the local Warks players popped down to Colours, Oxford a few months ago for the £1000 Blackball competition, you may remember us.
I got to the main event semi-final and Loz Plant won the plate, we had a good time down there and had a right old drinking session on the Saturday night (from what i remember) !
I will be organising a tournament later on this year in Warwick (dates to be decided) and would like to return the favour and invite 8 players from the Oxford region (will accept County A and B or any amateur standard, no pro's though).
Tournament will be held over a Saturday and Sunday, play starting at 12 Noon and finishing approx 7pm both days, 32 players maximum entry, entry will be set at £40 per player (I realise this is a lot of money but it is an annual tourney), prize fund will therefore be £1280.
Format will be similiar to the UEFA Champions League, group winners and runners-up progressing to the main event and non group qualifiers progressing to the plate competition, players will be seeded in both KO competitions based on their group finish.
Therefore argue amongst yourselves (those that are interested), elect a spokesperson and email to me 8 names who you would like to enter at brian.higgins1@ntlworld.com
I will forward details of the competition to the spokesperson.

Thanks for this Brian it will be interesting to see who is interested in going up there. Can you advise a decent place to stay for those that are interested ?
If this is an annual event there is a chance that you already have a window of when you are thinking of holding it, it would be useful if you could give us an indication of when it is likely to be say July, August etc
Am I right in saying that would be 8 groups of 4 players then so for the £40 you are gauranteed 2 matches in the qualifiers and a further match in the main / plate. How many frames are there in the matches based on previous years and the most important thing where is it being held ?
I actually think thats a good format because you are gauranteed 3 matches and not two using the straight knockout format we used in Oxford earlier this year.
Jules might be worth thinking of this for the memorial event later in the year becuase it keeps people in the venue for longer and gives them more matches.

I have been running monthly competitions since April '07 (2 so far) and these have gone well, the annual event will be an inaugral one so a definitive timing has not been discussed yet, ideally I would be looking to organise aroundabout late August '07 (after the summer hols).
The tournament venue only has 3 tables but these are contained in a large room at the rear of the pub, the tournament format would be as follows :-
8 randomly drawn groups of 4 players, each player would play three frames against the other 3 players in their group, the top two in each group will go forward to the main event and the bottom two would go into the plate competition, therefore you are guaranteed 3 matches in the group stage, 9 frames will be played by each player in the group stages.
Main Event would consist of best of five in the last 16, best of seven in the quarters and semis and the final would be best of nine racks.
The Plate Event would run alongside the Main Event on the Sunday, format to be decided based on timings.
Prize Money would be in the vicinity of :-
Main event winner £500 Main event r/up £250 Main event losing s/final £125 x 2
Plate event winner £200 Plate event r/up £80
Timetable :- ========= Saturday 11-30am to 7-30pm (11am registration and draw) Sunday 11-30am to 6-30pm approx
Three tables gives the venue a better atmosphere and all are in view to all the players at all times.
Plenty of local B&B's in the Warwick town for anyone wishing to stay overnight.
