I drove to Great Yarmouth yesterday to play in todays National Ladies Singles and the National Ladies Team event which was taking place over the weekend. There was also a Professional event quarter final onwards to be played tonight and The Champion of Champions team event and mens/ladies singles being played. We got to reception about 5pm and was told about the flood warning. There were sandbags around the venue but we didn't think we were in much danger at that time. So we carried on as usual - drinking etc. Then they started announcing that we could bring our cars on site in case we had to evacuate. (Mine was already by my van as I knew the security guard on the gate lol). So I slowed down the drinking just in case. We all went to one of our vans but one of the girls went to hall about 10pm and heard an announcement that they were evacuating the site. We contemplated driving to Blackpool to gatecrash the BAPTO finals. A couple of the guys went back to the main hall to confirm what was happening and yes, we did have to evacuate so at midnight we packed our bags and I drove back home with my 2 passengers. We were told the police would turn a "blind eye" if people were driving over the limit and for anyone who'd drank too much they laid on coaches to take them to Norwich. Before you all start asking, our money for the vans will be refunded. At present not sure if it'll be re-scheduled as early days but this would be a nightmare for the EPA to arrange. Will have to wait and see what happens now.
