quick question, the rules say...
O. Push Shots and Double Hits
  1. Definitions: Most shots commonly known as "Push Shots" in the game of "Snooker" are allowed in the game of Eight-Ball Pool. Generally, any shot played with speed will not be deemed to be a Push Shot regardless of the fact that the cue tip may have come into contact with the Cue Ball more than once.
  2. Exceptions that are Standard Fouls:-
    1. When, during the playing of a shot, the tip of the cue strikes the Cue Ball twice and the referee is able to actually see each contact.
    2. When, during the playing of a shot, a player plays the cue so slowly through the Cue Ball that the cue tip remains in contact with the Cue Ball so as to be visibly pushing it along.
    3. When the Cue Ball is played into a touching Object Ball. {see (T) Touching Balls}
My question is, surely if you do an obvious push shot then it is deemed a foul unless you play it with pace?
So if 2 balls are close together and you just push them up table slowly to set up the ball you are pushing with white then it must be a foul judging by the world rules?  Is this right?

It is deemed a foul whether you play it slowly or not.
But it is usually at the referee's disgresion.
Plus, if you play it soft "up the table" you are unlikely to hit a cushion, resulting in a foul.

Hi James,

Seen my oldest  Old Manbrother lately confused

 

 

Anyway if it was not a push shot, it would almost differently be a double hit which in both caes would result in a FOUL.Hope This Helps

Hey Malcome,

Yeh funny enough him and laura stayed at my parents about 2 weeks ago.

I thought that was the rule, i played in witney doubles and played against ricky jones and stuart griffin and stuart did this exact push shot, he just pushed it up table (hit a cushion) to set himself up. I said isn't that a foul and ricky and stuart said it was legal but i was sure it wasn't but wasn't gonna argue (plus ricky kept on about he had done the referee exam etc lol), we beat them in the end anyway lol.

I'm going to county trials in january and gonna give county another go after about 10 years lol, playing well now, just had a double lung transplant so breathing is so much easier. pool is getting easier again, check it out if you get bored LOL

shame he didn't contact you, he always gives me something when he comes over, him and laura are so good to me.

Think he is quite busy with all his films etc at mo.
