I am looking at setting up a regional blackball tour in the midlands area and am seeking input from players in the area who may be interested. I posted this on the Leamington site................
Entry Fees: £150 Based on 48 players total prize fund: £6,720 (£10 from each entry fee pays for tour shirt) 4 one-day events with each event prize fund: £1,680 Probably starting May 2008
Payout at each event..... Winner: £450 Runner-up: £300 Semis: £150 Quarters: £95 Last 16: £35 Plate Event: £100 (£50 winner, £20 r/up, £15 semis)
Plate event open only to players eliminated in rounds one and two. All matches played to Blackball rules, best of 11 frames. Tour shirts must be worn and dress code (dark trousers/shoes) enforced.
Ive based this on 48 runners but we could go to 64, should the interest be there, and increase the fund by a further £2,400 (£600 per event).
Of course it doesnt have to be £150, it could be £100 or £120 but either way the prize fund has to be properly set to encourage both the good players and those not so good but feel it provides value for money and at least a chance of getting something back.
Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void, without the slightest inkling of who or what is out there. If you had known anything about the true nature of the game, anything at all, you would've hidden from it in terror

I am open to suggestions and comments,

I think the fact your proposing to pay down to 16 places will encourage more players to part with their cash.
Lets face it 4 @ 35 (last 16 places) = break even if you deduct the £10 for the shirt.
You suggest the plate is first and second round losers so if 48 enties you would end up with 32 (16 1st round and 16 2nd round) in the plate. 16 would get a bye to the last 32 and so winning one match would get your money back for that event not the whole tour. This way you can pick up a consolation prize and still go in the plate as well .
Like Ming says it all comes down to dates unless you are going to allow people to pay say £40 per event a premium of £5 so they can attend those where possible because of work etc and not commit to the whole tour. This way I think you may get more people interested.
I know the EPA tour use a handicap system, would you go down the same route.
Pro = Scratch County A = +1 County B = +1/2 depending on who they are playing
Non county players = +2

I shouldve been clearer. What i meant to say was anyone not finishing in the money places goes in the free plate! Anyway in principle would players from here be interested? Regarding dates i would do my utmost to avoid clashing with anything local-ish.
Think the real major issue is about the pro's and handicaps. Generally speaking i always pay down to the Last 16 at events i run.
The Leamington site are starting a list of potential players for this tour. Providing each of these areas supports the tour with entries we're looking at running one event each in Oxon, Warks, Derbys and Staffs. Ideally we're looking for each area to have at least 8 entrants so based on a minimum of 32 runners the tour will have a £4K prize fund (£1,000 each event) and will be £120 to enter. We will ask for a deposit initally so players can spread the cost out and Event 1 should be in May this year. If we get more than 32 entries we will increase the prize payout accordingly and pay down to the Last 16. The idea being that if you win 2 matches you get into the prize fund stages.
Will be a good chance to play competitive blackball rules pool against players from other areas and, for those good enough, a good opportunity to make some cash! Even those who dont win money should feel they've had value for money.
If you're interested please feel free to put your name in this forum and PM me your contact number. Also if you know anyone who may be interested please give them these details.
This is a good chance to get a blackball tour going in the area, and going well, so help us to help you!

Another example of beefy needing to get his facts right. THE EPA/IPA tour doesn't use a handicap system, you're thinking of the Gangsters at Swindon.
Ok I stand correct on it not being part of the tour then but its still an EPA based event, played to EPA rules - thats good enough for me to quote it as an example

Ive spoken to Riley's who have said they will sponsor this tour. The events will take place in the 4 areas that contribute players so if people here want one in Oxford then please mention this to people who you feel may be interested. Anyone wanting to be kept i upto date with things can phone/text me on 07708 502906.
At the Staffs Open world rules event i helped to run on Saturday i had at least 20 players who say they are keen on this so i dont think filling it will be a problem, providing the dates are OK. Another suggestion ive had is to run the events on Sundays with £5 and £10 flyers being held on the Saturdays for those travelling n and wanting to make a weekend of each event.

Are you doing posters etc to advertise this?
I'm sure there would be a number of interested people around here, unfortunately a lot of them don't use the web.
