The 2009 Town v Gown Ladies Pool Tournament is taking place this month.

Venue: A1
Date: Sat 21 Feb
Time: from 1pm

Anyone who would like to come and cheer on the Town please feel free to come down and support! Oh, and if you're supporting the gown I suppose you can come along too wink

They are probably still in shock over the result !

Why? Knowing all ten of the players concerned I thought it would be pretty close - Louisa is a very promising player who's only started playing this year for the uni team.

Carrie won first match for us against Rachael, then Emma lost to Nicki. I won 3rd match against Jojo to make it 2-1 to us. Kerry was then 2-1 up against Connie and should've won but bottled it. Jaz played Louisa in deciding match and to be honest Louisa out played her and hardly missed a pot. 3-2 to Gown.

We'll hopefully get it back next year.

Yeah, the students played extremely well, espescially towards the end of the match. At the end of the day they deserved it.  Its nice to see the match more competitive in recent years - I look forwrad to some good battles in the future.

And Louisa who I played... my god I've never seen anything like it! I've played a number of the best Blackball ladies in recent years and NONE of them played as well as that against me!!! I never looked in with a good chance.

That said, I've seen the error of my ways in agreeing to play to World rules - Both me and another of our players were like a fish out of water...  Back to Blackball next year and I also intend to get that trophy back to where it belongs.

Given Kerry and Hazel know those rules inside out I can see why you would have still fancied your chances.

May be the solution is to play two matches each year and take the aggregate score.

Team of 5 players one match blackball on a table of the captains choice and then one match at world rules on a table of the other captains choice.

That way the best all round team wins - may be the men should consider this as well !
