Rileys has agreed to host a series of one-day singles tournaments as part of the Oxford Singles Pool League.
These are open to all pool players (not solely those currently playing the Singles League).
Cash prizes are on offer to the winners and runners up (and losing semi finalists if enough entries). The pay-out structure depends on the number of entries.
The purpose of the one-day tournaments is to raise a bit of extra cash to finance personal trophies for the winners of the Singles League sections.
Non-members of Rileys will receive free annual membership if they enter a tournament.
The first tournament will be held on Saturday 12th September at Rileys Oxford commencing at 11am.
Depending on numbers the aim is to start at 11am and will finish on the same day.
The entry fee is £5. Format will be a straight knockout best of five. Quarter Finals best of seven, Semi Finals best of nine and Final best of eleven numbers permitting.
The deadline for paid entries is Thursday 10th September.

Currently this tournament has received zero interest. If you plan to enter please let me know!
I appreciate that it is only a best-of-five competition with a small £5 entry fee, I intended to make it cheap to enter to draw plenty of interest that so far hasn't materialised. Would more people be interested if it were £50 entry fee which would mean higher cash prizes?

Tom.
Now you're talking... Unfortunately I'm working that day however if it was £50 per man i'd book the day off

perhaps a form of divisional or tiered entry fees so that meer amateurs like myself would find it more appealing, i can't see lower league players being interested in spending their money on a thrashing. £5 for the lower tier £10 for intermediate £50 for the 'elite' players or something. just a thought
Currently two people have signed up for this event at Rileys. I've heard that some people "may turn up on the day". This isn't good enough for me to commit a whole day running a pool competition just on hearsay that some players may turn up.
If you intend on entering please email tom_williams78@hotmail.com or ring/text 07739016497. If there is not enough REGISTERED interest by Thursday evening I'll cancel the event.
We now have six people. This is not enough. If this remains by tonight I'll pull the plug and the event will be cancelled. Anyone planning to turn up on the day and finds no event happening don't moan to me.
Yesterday's Singles Series saw 15 players in two round-robin best-of-five groups producing semi finals with Matty Challen beating Ben Scott 3-2 and Will Cooper beating Jamey Street 3-2. In the final Matty Challen beat Will Cooper 3-1.

I plan to run another Singles Series tournament in November or December exact data TBC.
Please feel free to let me know if you're interested in advance.
The next Oxford Singles Pool League One Day Tournament will take place on Saturday 31st October at Rileys. Matches should commence from 11.30am.
Depending on the number of entries, the format will either be a straight best-of-five knockout with an entry fee of £5, or it will be similar to the tournament in September, with a couple of groups playing a round-robin format which will have an entry fee of £10. The change in entry fee is because you'll get a lot more pool guarenteed in a round-robin format.
This should generate a decent prize fund for the winner and runner up.
Reminder of the next Series taking place on Saturday 31st October. It would be more helpful to have those planning to attend letting me know in advance. Entries on the day are fine but it's helpful to have an idea of numbers before the day.
£5 or £10 entry fee depending on the number of entries.
Another reminder for Saturday. Please be there for 11am, it makes my job a lot easier that way than tou have people rocking up at midday. We're aiming for an 11.30 start.
Yesterday's Singles Series Tournament saw Altaf Ali winning £50 beating Peter de Banks 3-0 in the final. Altaf had beaten Ben Scott in their Semi Final, with Peter beating Jez Thompson in the other.
The third Singles Series Tournament will take place on Saturday 19th December 2009at Rileys.
The format and entry fee will again depend on the number of entrants, so will either be £5 for a straight knockout tournament OR £10 for a round-robin group stage with top four progressing to the semi finals.
Be at Rileys for 11am on the 19th December 2009.
In addition I will run a couple of £2 Christmas Killer Competitions throughout the day to add a bit more excitement.
Just a reminder that this Saturday at Rileys I'm running the third Singles Series Tournament. £5 or £10 entry fee depending on the number of entries and the format it's run.
Be there for 11am to register, with an aim to start around 11.45am.
