With the loss of the pool table in the Osney, along the closure of the GWR and the kite also thinking of taking out it's pool table this just leaves the 3 venues on the Botley rd (Hollybush, Demo & White house) which means a league of 6 teams which is not possible.
Whist the idea of a mile league is great one and one that I have enjoyed playing for many years, as it meant players could have a drink and walk to the venues, but with the loss of tables, the league is not possible to run in it present format.
To keep the league going, an option is to open the league to a larger area, including pubs & Clubs within the Oxford Ring Road, but still keeping it to a 3-man team best of 5, still running from April-Sept. On 15th Jan 2010, there will be a meeting will be held at the hollybush,7.30 to discuss about the future of mile league. If it is decided that the league will continue in a larger area an AGM for the league will also take place.A position for League Chairman is up for re:election for the 2010 season.
Anyone unable to attend the meeting but wishes to support changes to continue this league or to propose a motion at the AGM please contact Sheree on sheree@oxfordpool.co.uk or 07590 673357
The meeting this Friday 5th Feb has now been canceled, and the future of the league is looking less likely, in it present form.
It was hoped the league could continue as the Mile, as a new owner was looking to buy the lease on the George Inn at the end of this month and the new owner had also planned to put 2 pool table in the pub, however GREEDY King are asking for a stupid amount of money for the lease.

They think it's all over - IT IS NOW(Kenneth "LUCKY" Wolstenhome)
Just a suggestion but why not have a league that operates from clubs, pubs etc within a mile of the city centre. There are a few on the aboingdon road with tables and the cowley road and even some in town.....
just a thought
