I plan to run a one-day pool tournament separate to all other competitions (which is why it's on this thread not the Sunday or Singles League threads).
I propose a simple format as suggested to me last year by Nathan Ball:
* 16 people * £50 entry fee * Straight knockout * First Round Best of Nine * Quarter Final Best of Nine * Semi Final Best of Eleven * Final Best of Eleven * £400 to Winner * £200 to Runner Up * £100 to both losing Semi Finalists.
This means you only need to progress through two rounds to double your money.
At this stage it would be good to see what the level of interest is in such a tournament. I'll sort a date out shortly but it is likely to be towards the end of February.
If more than 16 people are interested then the pay out structure can change, but also the First Round may need to be Best of Seven to accommodate the extra matches.
So far Adam Brown and Tom Weeks have expressed interest, but for Tom only if it's not a Saturday.
I expect other people are interested but haven't got around letting me know! I'm looking for positive replies from:
Matty Challen Nathan Ball Scooby Rhys Freemire Ben Scott Kevin McIlroy Malcolm Lewis John Kinsey Tim Williamson Lewis Bland Jamey Street Andrew Gee Brian Carroll James Thorpe
Also, there is the final of the Berkshire tour towards the end of February. You should probably take that into consideration when deciding on the date.
1. Adam Brown 2. Tom Weeks 3. Ben Scott 4. Malcolm Lewis 5. Nathan Ball 6. Jamey Street 7. Rhys Freemire 8. John Kinsey
We're halfway, just need eight more players for this to work. Feel free to spread the work to people who visit the forum less often.
By the way, for those of a sensitive nature, my earlier comment "The rest of you probably aren't good enough....." was tongue in cheek so don't be offended! Anyone not listed on that thread is welcome to enter!
Adam, feel free to invite Rich down if you think it's the sort of thing he'd like to enter.
Jamey, can you ask James Thorpe?3
I hope to confirm the date (28th Feb) and venue (Rileys) later today.
1. Adam Brown 2. Tom Weeks 3. Ben Scott 4. Malcolm Lewis 5. Nathan Ball 6. Jamey Street 7. Rhys Freemire 8. John Kinsey 9. Jason Buck 10. Tom Gaughan 11. James Thorpe
So just five more people needed to make this work. If though I get a few more than 16 then we'll just have a prelim round before the final 16 matches so may start a little earlier than 11am if so.
I'm happy for people to pay on the day, but if you say yes now then don't turn up on the day that'd be really rubbish as the pay out structure needs at least 16 people to participate.
It'd be nice to create something more substantial, similar to the Berkshire Tour but we'll use this tournament to see how we get on. The format for this comp is fixed at Best of Eleven matches for each round (maybe shorter for a prelim round) but this can be reviewed for future tournaments.
If people are keen I'm happy to organise a series of one day tournaments working on a similar basis, with perhaps a points system for an overall champion a la Berkshire Tour.

Good luck getting that little lot to turn up, turn up on time, and turn up with the entry money!
Well at £50 per person entry fee, that's £800 total prize fund. £400 to the winner, £200 to runner up, £100 to both losing semi finalists. If someone doesn't turn up the prize fund suffers accordingly...
I would hope those agreeing now are genuine and the verbal beasting they'd get by not turning up will put off people failing to show up!
I expect though I'll get around 20 people so the total prize fund should be £800 or more. The payout structure will change accordingly.

They think it's all over - IT IS NOW(Kenneth "LUCKY" Wolstenhome)
They tried to make the first event a pre paid event for the first X amount of players to register. I think they had many many names down who hadn't paid prior to the day of the event and guess what...... a lot of people (who hadn't pre paid) didn't turn up.
1. Adam Brown 2. Tom Weeks 3. Ben Scott 4. Malcolm Lewis 5. Nathan Ball 6. Jamey Street 7. Rhys Freemire 8. John Kinsey 9. Jason Buck 10. Tom Gaughan 11. James Thorpe 12. Matty Challen 13. Pete Armitage 14. Dan Davy 15. Rich Wharton 16. Altaf Ali
Just a reminder that the tournament is a week on Sunday (28th February).
I've had reassurances from most of the 16 names below but please don't forget it will only work properly if all 16 turn up. If we get less then the payout values will shrink accordingly.
10am doors open, 11am start.
If you can't pay your entry fee before the date or before the matches start then you won't be allowed to enter.
If anyone else would like to enter I'm quite happy to run it with more than 16 players so feel free to get in touch:
Andrew Gee, Dan Durham, Peter de Banks, Lee Challis, Lewis Bland, Tim Williamson, Brian Carroll to name a few who I thought would be interested...
