Where are they now?
Permalink Closed

I have just been looking at the full list of honours on the Monday league and wondered if anyone knew what has happened to some the players I remember from the 1980's, like Kelvin Woodward, Warner Page, Pat McIntosh, Sue Little, Sarah and Margaret Carter, Martin Edwards, B. Wixey, John Day etc etc. I Saw Tim Holt last year working in The Crispin, Harwell I think and I know what Tony Batch is doing these days, having met him a few times recently.

But where and what are the others doing these days?

I'm sure Malc know where some of them are? The only one I know is John Day, who's living in the States now - good player and a great bloke!

All are still around Oxford even John Day who has popped back over for a year, (he goes back to the USA around October time) as for the rest the last time I have seen them were:

Kelvin Woodward, (my old manager when I was profession in the mid 80’s) was in 2005  Grocery shopping at Tesco’s – Cowley.

Warner Page, is very  Peeking Over Fence elusive haven’t seen him for a while, although I get regular reports through both of our wife’s working together.

Pat McIntosh, I see sometimes  Walking 2 wondering around the Iffley & Cowley road areas.

Sue Little, (Pats old mixed doubles partner) works at Tesco's on nights on the fuel.  Gas Pump

Sarah and Margaret Carter, you might know by now run the  Drinks Folly Bridge Inn  Beer  Beer 2  Beer 3 with Roger Carter.

Martyn Edwards, retired from POOL back in 1996 and is currently working for the council,TrashcanI see him maybe once or twice a year, compared to the old days of 4/5 times a week.

and Barry Wixey, (Christmas card List) saw him around this time last year with his  Family 3 3 kids at St Giles Fair,  Roller Coaster I think he is trying to catch me up. Lol

Anyway Hazel, I hope that has helped you on your quest of “where are they now” thread.Where Are You

How is John's game after spending all this time in Fort Worth (which is coincidentally where I go to see my Brother on a regular basis) ?

Sheeree do you know where in Fort Worth he lives ?

Its a much more open game there with bucket size pockets on all tables, very little tactics involved on a nine ball style table. It takes about 3 balls to cover 1 bag and with 6 bags its a pointless exercise really.

Whats he think of the current rules as I would have said the old EPA rules (2 shots carry) or many pubs "pub rules" between non league players ?

Pat McIntosh, is into his Bingo and has been for many a year, he lives in Holloway, Cowley opposite the Newsagents, nice bloke Pat, and was lucky to have him on board at the Corner House/Swan teams in the 80's.

Kelvin Woodward, be nice to see him again, last adress i knew he was in was up Barton, very professional when he ran the old LMS league, and generally a nice bloke, was known to 'chin' the odd team member if they needed to be put in there place!

Barry Wixey, another nice bloke last i knew he moved to Witney, think he may still play a bit of snooker, can remember one night in the early 80's when i had 2 seperate singles matches down at that once hotbed of pool Queens (now Rosie O'Gradys) think i played first in the backroom against someone called ????? Ballantyne and beat him (think everyone use to beat him) then going to the other table near the front door and Barry doing the business on me.

We also had a player whom disapeared out of Oxford many years ago...Graham Taylor...i think his name was...and not the Turnip type, he was a jock, a Rangers man as well we had some good laughs & friendly banter, he was a steady player, long shot but anyone no his whereabouts?

Warner 'CHEAT' Page..........well thats all i can say about this bloke, his middle name.

Martin 'Fudger' Edwards (or was it Playaway/Playboy) is now residing in Old Marston, where i see him many a day waiting for a bus around Mill Lane, he is still into Pool big time but only Machine type, & last i knew he was still working for the Council.

Sarah & Margaret Carter? Well i remember there Brother/Son...Mark Carter when he worked for BT we drove up to Newcastle i think for a weekend tournament, not sure if i'd recognise him now though.

And finally a former teamate of mine Died a few days ago TONY TRAFFORD he was 59. Tony played at the Corner House for a while with us. But he mainly played in the Wheatley League at 'The Sandpiper' for many years, when the majority of us who played at the Corner went over there for a game on a Sunday/Monday i think? Tony nephew also played Julian Trafford, boy could he talk a good game, no doubt he still does Julian! he was the joker in the team who kept us amused & in stitches for many a year, can remember the day he was spreadeagled NAKED on the pool table when someone took an aim with the thin end of a cue (unchalked) and rammed it up his passage, his expression changed as it would do, dont think that cue was ever used again! Cant remember who it was now who administrated this?
