It's the Monday league speed pool night next Monday (19th December) at the Crown House Club from 8pm.
There are 2 different competitions on the night - a 3-person team event and a singles event.
The team event will be head-to-head knockout on two tables where teams play against each other simultaneously to see who can pot all their balls the fastest! Entry is £6 per team and the winner will receive £45 plus trophies!
The singles event is £1 per go to see who can do the fastest individual time - winner takes £30 cash, plus minor prizes for the next 4 fastest and the fastest lady.
It was a very good night had by all who attended last year, so come along to have some fun just before Christmas and to make this a bigger and better event than last year, with the chance of winning some money and prizes!
There will be two competitions running at the same time. A team event which is a straight knockout, and a singles event which can be entered as many times as you like throughout the evening. The team event will take place in the main room over four tables (two per team). The individual event will take place on one of the tables in the small room. Only players that have played in at least one league match for a Monday night team during this season will be eligible to enter either competition.
TEAM EVENT:
1. Teams are to be made up of three players who play for the same Monday night pool team and have played in at least one league match this season.
2. Each team within the league will be guaranteed at least one entry. There will also be a minimum of 8 additional entries for extra teams, probably more, to give a maximum total number of entries of 32. These additional entries will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. All entries must be in by 8:15pm, as the draw will then be taking place to allow the tournament to start at 8:30pm sharp.
3. Any additional entries must again have players that have played for that team in at least one league match.
4. There will be a £6 charge per 3-person team entry.
5. A random knockout draw will be done and teams will then compete at the same time as each other over four tables (two tables per team).
6. Both teams will start at the same time. After the first player has cleared the balls on his/her table and touched the teams other table with their hand, then the second player can start. The third player then starts when the second player has cleared the table and touched the other table with their hand. The winner will be the team whose third player finishes first.
7. The player must not hit a cue ball whilst it is moving, but object balls can still be moving when hit.
8. If the cue ball goes in-off then it must be allowed to run through the table mechanism and not picked out of the pocket.
9. If the cue ball, or any other ball, leaves the table, the player must retrieve it. The cue ball should be placed anywhere behind the line for the next shot. An object ball should be placed on, or as near as possible to, the black spot.
10. A penalty will apply should rules 6, 7, 8 or 9 not be adhered too, on each occasion. The referee will take the white ball and put it down a pocket with play not resuming until it runs through the table mechanism and the player has retrieved it.
11. Balls can be potted in any order.
12. The usual Blackball rules about fouls when not hitting a ball, or a cushion, are relaxed.
13. Players will be responsible for racking their own balls.
14. The competition will proceed from a last 32 round, through rounds of 16, 8, and 4 to a final in a straight knockout format.
15. In the event of the competition over-running, it will be completed on the presentation night.
16. There will be a first place prize of £45, as well as trophies for the winners and runners-up. These prizes will be presented at the main presentation night. There will also be minor prizes given out on the night to the runners-up.
17. Any rules above broken which the referee deems to have been done in a deliberate manner will result in disqualification of that team.
18. Each match will have a referee, and the referees decision for each match is final. This might include the match being re-played if necessary.
SINGLES EVENT:
1. A singles event will take place in the other room in the Crown House from 8-11pm.
2. All players who enter must have played at least one league match for a Monday pool league team this season, but dont have to have entered the team event as well.
3. There is a charge of £1 per attempt. A player may enter as many times as they like, but only one entry is allowed at a time, so you may only re-enter after an attempt, and at the end of the entry list.
4. A player will forfeit their place in the queue should they be required to play in the team event next door.
5. The player will rack their own balls.
6. Balls can be potted in any order.
7. The usual Blackball rules about fouls when not hitting a ball, or a cushion, are relaxed.
8. The player must not hit a cue ball whilst it is moving, but object balls can still be moving when hit.
9. If the cue ball goes in-off then it must be allowed to run through the table mechanism and not picked out of the pocket.
10. If the cue ball, or any other ball, leaves the table, the player must retrieve it. The cue ball should be placed anywhere behind the line for the next shot, an object ball should be placed on, or as near as possible to, the black spot.
11. A penalty will apply should rules 8, 9 or 10 not be adhered too, on each occasion. The referee will take the white ball and put it down a pocket with play not resuming until it runs through the table mechanism and the player can retrieve it.
12. The referee will time the clearance from the player plays their first shot after the break, and will stop timing when the final ball is potted.
13. The winner will be the player with the quickest time (including any penalties) as at 11pm, or later if the league decides to extend the competition.
14. There will be a first prize of £30, as well as a trophy, which will be presented at the main presentation night. There will also be minor prizes given out on the night for the people with the next four best times, as well as fastest time for a Section Two player, a Section Three player and the fastest lady.
15. The referees decision and their recorded finishing time for each attempt is final.
Team 'Moo' said she was going to bring 2, hopefully 3, teams down when I spoke to her last night. Hopefully we'll get at least two teams together as well.
Thanks to all the people who turned out for the Speedpool last night. It was a real laugh, and we were delighted with the turnout. Sorry I had to call a close to the singles attempts shortly before 1am, but it had been a long night by then! Well done Nicki for running the event, and thanks to Ash (and me) for reffing/timing most of the night!
The team event was won by Demos A (Tony, Marc & Tom), who beat the Rileys/CH team (Max, Jimbo & Rob) in the final.
The following individual times gained the players concerned a bottle of wine, courtesy of our sponsors The Crown House Club
Fastest Overall Time - Adam Brown - 56 secs Fastest Section 2 - Rob Ford - 1min 31 secs Fastest Lady/Section 3 - Jaz Venning - 1min 32 secs
Next fastest times: Pete Machonochie - 1min 10 secs Tom Gaughan - 1min 15 secs Fuller - 1min 16 secs
Rileys/CH players - Pete Mac has your bottles of wine... sorry I gave them to the wrong person and he didn't stop me. It was late, I got confused... what can I say.
Fordy, I've got your bottle of wine at my house so give me a shout when you're at Rileys and I'll pop it over to you.

Twas a great night. Wish I could have stayed later, but a 4:45am alarm call for work prevented it.
Two years on the trot for Browny then in the Singles. Shame the Team holders couldn't be bothered to defend their title, but worthy new champs in the Demos team who spanked us in the Semis.

Looking forward to next year already...
Do you really want me to comment on your remark Ashley Fletcher.
