Britain’s richest ever pub pool competition is back. Sponsored this time by Nuts magazine, once again with a winner-takes-all prize of £50,000
Every pub or club with a pool table has the chance to hold at least one qualifying competition supplying a champion to go through to the area finals.
Players can enter the first round as many times as they like, but they can only qualify once for subsequent stages. Players enter by SMS text and are directed to pubs/clubs who are holding events.
Each qualifier reaching an area final will receive a branded cue
Pub qualifiers staged between January and March 2007.
Area finals in April and May 2007.
Regional finals in June 2007.
Televised final on Sky Sports in July 2007.
If we get more than 50 events played in this area we will get our own area final. Fees for pub/clubs are cheaper this year as players enter by text, so their initial outlay is easily recovered over the bar.
I have pub entry forms if anyone wants one, All Abingdon Pool League pubs will receive one this comming weekend, so if you're and Abingdon player, badger your landlord from Sunday.

Pub Sports Productions Limited regret to announce that The Nuts Pub Pool Challenge 2007 has been cancelled due to the low number of entries.
We thank those who have supported this year's promotion and apologise for any disappointment suffered by participating players and venues.
Pub and club winners are being notified by text message and we are currently working on arrangements to deliver their prize cues. To enable this to happen we ask all qualifying winners to please email info@pubpoolchallenge.co.uk with their address, mobile number and the name of the venue in which they qualified
Don't forget the cost of the entry pack that each venue had to pay for as well. The cues probably only cost them about £4 each anyway. A lot of the gossip can be seen here http://www.uk8ball.net/viewtopic.php?forum=73&topic=24612
There's a limit to what I can say at this stage, but here is a more detailed explanation of why the PPC has regretfully been cancelled.
There was a total of 3,000 qualifying events across the country. Each venue paid an average of £10 per event.
As organisers we then receive £1.50 per text entry - the mobile phone networks get the rest.
Based on last years promotion, we projected a figure of between 8 - 10 players per qualifying event. In fact nearly 1,000 of the events were entered by nobody at all, another 500 had just one entry and the rest averaged four players a time.
The eventual number of text entries was less than 7,000 - an average of 2.3 players per event. Venues like Dishers, Owleywood and others had a fantastic response but the vast majority of the country's pool players decided not to take part.
When the qualifying events concluded three weeks ago, it became apparent the event may not be able to continue without an additional injection of funds. Venue and player fees together with sponsorship income were not sufficient to meet the prize fund and TV production costs.
Last year I personally underwrote the event to a significant extent but was unable to do the same this time around.
Protracted talks with existing sponsors ultimately proved unsuccessful and we were left with no alternative but to cancel the event immediately.
We are currently attempting to ensure that funds are available to meet any remaining obligations which include the winners' cues.
From a personal point of view I am deeply upset at such an outcome to a project towards which I have devoted a considerable amount of time and effort.
I also regret that I have disappointed many people from the world of pool and beyond who have been so supportive over the past couple of years.
, but retail at about £20. Now who would want one of those?
Me. Could be a collectors item in a few years.
Disappointed that it's been cancelled. Though the points being made as to why are valid.
A hell of a number of pubs, having entered, didn't little if no advertising of their competitions.
When you get the regular players of venues not even entering what hope is there.
Ok, we've all got very little chance of winning the £50,000 but it was only £3 to enter and most of these players pay £2 to play in their local league competitions so there's no arguement about it being expensive.
Even at Colours, i only seen 1 poster advertising their events, i don't even think anyone even entered.

Great so they have 4 cues costing £4 each to raffle off then. Maybe they might just recover their costs.....
Hey Jules watchout later in the year if they have not been disposed of before then.
