As put before, At a comittee meeting it was agreed that the squad is 2-3 players short, Not C team was short. I wish people would stop putting the Oxford C team down. There are some very good pool players that have so far played in that team and that will play in that team in the future. They play in the same league as the B team, With the strentgh of players in Oxford could also be just as good as any B team in the future

The players in the Trail are The next 4 on the trail list and 4 players that were not even in Oxford when the Trail's took place, so they didn't just infom that the were not around they were not even in Oxfordshire.

As for  "It just seems very underhand the way things are being done, it would be nice for once if something was done in the open and some questions answered without all the secrecy involved"

Myself and John were talking about this in a middle of a club and a pool match, not a way of keeping it quiet really. And as put before I should off answered you question after the game. Which as said before Sorry.

What! no room in your squad of 467 for 3 more players? Perhaps the food bill's too high at home games.

I think your under the wrong impression of how many THE OSNEY ARMS sign on each season or are you  Confused  confusing us with other teams ?, just for instance the team that WALKED the biggest and possibly toughest league in Oxfordshire (maybe the world LOL) originally signed on 7 players, then after only a short time was reduced to just the 5 who completed the season.

Next season the plan is again to sign 7 players I dont think that is overloading a 5 person team league do you ?.I'm Confused

Still the question has not been answered, who are the players invited to trial, and why are only these players being given an extre chance and not other players ?

Result of this trial

David Graham 6/6
Nick Mansell 4/6
John Street 3/6
Mark Priest 2/6
Stuart Barney 2/6
Chris Hambridge 2/6
Ben Holroyd 2/6

Ash Penny-Larter - Unavailable

That's the first part answered 8 ball.  The second already has been. 4 were runners up from previous trials.  4 were the people that all contacted myself or other members of the committee BEFORE the trial notifying us of their inability to trial on the new date.  You can make committments your excuse but a simple phone call before hand saying your intention to trial but inability to would have meant we would have kept you in mind - I even tried to ring you!!!! Nothing hidden, no secrets and no grassy knoll - sorry to disapoint but the running of OCPF really isn't that exciting!!

Congratulations to David Graham, Nick Mansell and welcome return from Johnny Cider.

Hi all, first post so go easy on me. Don't want to add fuel to the fire, but I'm gonna anyway. I was one of the players put on the reserve list. Steve had phoned me to invite me to the trial, but unfortunately I couldn't make it. This has obviously excluded me from the chance to qualify! My question is would it not be fairer to of used the 4 reserves when needed, keeping those who are successful in the team. So from my perspective I trialled against 40+ people (and was one pot away from qualifying against Mr Hornblow who seems to be doing pretty well) and 4 others who couldn't make the trials got to trial against 6 others!

This is not meant as a criticism as your the captains voted in etc and your entitled to run the team as you see fit, but from my perspective I'm obviously dissappointed that as I wasn't available today and therefore lost my opportunity.

For the good of the team I am sure you now have a stronger team, but I would of relished the opportunity to play at a higher level after only 1 full year playing league pool.

In a perfect world maybe. As I've said several times, in response to previous criticisms etc, we decided to make it as near on guaranteed that everyone got to play every match if they could.  This means sailing close to wind on squad numbers. That's were the development squad came in. Played when we are short and when we need them, if at all. They are the slack.  Trouble is we've been requiring them too much. Hence needing 2 or 3 more main squad members. This is the first time we've had a C team. To add four more 'maybe' squad members would make the whole thing impossible to mange

Firstly, yes there were 40+ people in the first trial ... but there were 15ish places. Today there were supposed to be 8 people for 3 places ... the ratios are the same. Secondly, the change of original trial date messed a few people up regards attending the first trial, like yourself today with the second. We had a mark on the first trial and everyone had an equal chance to obtain it - make it you're in.
Basically, we felt a second trial between the next four and those we KNEW (ie told us before the first trial i.e. not those that just didn't turn up and decide later to moan) had suffered from the original change was the fairest to everyone.  At the end of the day we have to do what makes Oxfordshire as strong as possible, but using the fairest path that can lead us there. Logically, simply lowering the original mark further wouldn't necessarily make the oxfordshire squad stronger.  Everyone today had a chance - it was decided on the table.

How come Ash Penny-Larter was invited for trials ? I was stood with Marcus on trials day when he was told that Ash couldn't be bothered to come ???
Also, why was Pete Timms not asked to these trails when you knew he wanted to trial, but was unavailable ?
Who is David Graham, who does he play for ?

Hopefully us in the next Winter league... smile  Very good player, new to the area. A worthy addition to any squad as his 6/6 from yesterday might suggest.

Millhouse get your facts straight before you start slagging on the forum .

Firstly how do you know what the conversation was that Ash had on County Trials, it was a phone call and it was not with you!!!

Secondly the reason Ash couldn't make trials wasn't that he couldn't be bothered!!  It was our eldest daughters 8th birthday, and we had arranged about 8 weeks previously to take her and some of her friends out for the day!!!

Oh and before you ask why he wasn't available on sunday, we had a pool memorial for Liam Hastings, who was of course our nephew.  It wasn't that he couldn't be bothered.

People should really get theit facts straight before they start posting on this forum.

Ash has always been a reliable player so why shouldn't he have been invited, thank god it is down to the committee and not players like you in general otherwise where would the county team be!  Committee keep doing the job you are doing, you all give up your spare time (or not so spare) to represent the county and ensure that the best team possible is playing.

Well done

What you were using a snooker ball - what ever next ! Correct me if I am wrong but a snooker ball is BIGGER than a pool ball so no excuses if you went in off. Were you using spiders as rests as well.....

I bet the breaks were easier with a HEAVIER cue ball. Got to be a void game surely, only joking its the same for both players.

It looks like we will have strength in depth this time around wouldn't it be nice to get the A,B and C squad all to the finals and have 3 mens teams there. Oh and before I get accussed of forgetting the other teams the ladies and youth as well of course.

Calm down, where in my posting was i slagging anyone off ? secondly, as i have stated, i was with Marcus when someone told him that Ash couldn't be bothered. I am just stating a FACT.

Firstly how do you know what the conversation was that Ash had on County Trials, it was a phone call and it was not with you!!!

Did i say that i knew about any conversation ?

And you should read what was said before getting all upset.

Ash has always been a reliable player so why shouldn't he have been invited,

I know that and would no doubt improve the squad.

thank god it is down to the committee and not players like you in general otherwise where would the county team be!

Ha! Milhouse... try 'Dr Kawashima's Brain Training' for the Nintendo DS (apparently?), it helps improve your memory and enables you to remember people's names! (apparently!?)

Sorry... couldn't resist! smile.gif

It seems very easy for the pool players in Oxford to sit behind a computer screen and comment on things that really do not concern them, since running the sunday league and my earlier clash with Beefy I have learnt not to bite so much but Millhouse please.  Ash never phoned anyone on the day of county trials but in fact told Ben Scott the week before.  It was John who phoned Ash on teh day of county trials to see if he would still not be able to make it.

I would like to know who your informant was, maybe people should stop playing chinese whispers in the county team, this is alot of our counties problem.

Thats fine, i was just going by what i was told (or heard). If Ash couldn't make it, then that is fine. The point i was making was that Pete also could not make the trials, the committe knew that , but was not asked to participate in the trials this past weekend.

I am unsure who it was who said it as i was just there when the comment was made in passing.

With Millhouse in the squad no wonder Ash couldn't be bothered.  He's probably got enough childish behaviour to deal with at home, and no I don't mean Emma!!

V. Good Tom.

I just get fed up with people commenting on what doesn't concern them, it wasn't even that Ash just couldn't be bothered but why people have to explain themselves to the likes of Millhouse I will never know.

What people like Millhouse don't realise is that without people like Ash, John, Marcus and Steve the county team wouldn't get half as far as it does, it is not only down to the players winning but also those that give up their own good time to give Oxfordshire a team and if that means bringing in fresh blood then that is what it takes, committees don't do things lightly, it all has to be discussed and then voted for only if it is for the best then do they action something.  Fair play to them all!!!

Ummmmmmmmmmmm! How come you won the league with him playing all the games, now that he's past it

Still he's no too bad when he's got another old timer to carry him in the doubles.

When's the over 40's tournaments starting?

Pehaps you should pay attention to what individuals say themselves rather than 3rd hand statements.

Pete stated in an earier post "I received a call from John on trials day but due to refing a football match in the morning I only noticed a missed call when I returned home. I called John back at about 2.00 pm and explained to him that I could not go to trials due to a family commitment that afternoon"

Now.....................notice the time mentioned, 2pm. No use someone telling us that they can't make the trials 2 hours after the start.

Ash, as far as i'm aware, had contacted the Manager(s)before the trials.

So in the event that another mini trial was required, it was decided to invite those players who had made the effort to inform them of their unavailability prior to the trials to the mini trial, as well as those who were new to, or had returned to, the area. As well as the next 4 highest ranked players in the original trial. Not with-standing, of course, that they'd expressed a desire to play County

If Pete, or anyone else, fitted into that criteria, i'm sure they would have been invited as well.

At the end of the day, we can't please everyone, not all players are available on given dates. If we change one date to suit one person, it will be inconvenient for another........such is life.

No-one's favored over someone else because they play for a particular team, because your face fits or other secret criteria.
