Had a brief update from Mr Fletch early afternoon, apparently the beer was vastly overpriced!...
I couldn't be there yesterday but I'll see you all next Sunday at Colours, If anyone wants a game early I'll be there from about 11ish (if the bus driver puts his foot down!)...
The Ladies stomped on a sadly depleted Berkshire team who lost some good players to the newly formed West Berkshire and some more to World Rules. Final Score 18-3 with Jaz, Nicki, Rachael, Laura, and myself getting three for three.
The Men's B was back and forth right to the end. 14-13 for us.
I didn't get to see any of the Men's A match, but they seemed distinctly unhappy with a 13-14 loss. I'm sure someone else will fill you in later on.
See you next weekend for my first match on the Men's C
Yeah, bit of a nailbiter for the 'B' team. It was left to our new upcoming player, Malc Lewis, to emphatically [cough] seal victory in a last frame decider.
We had been 6-1 down (I think), so a great comeback. Shame the 'A's got narrowly beatenm otherwise it would have been a perfect (but bloody long) start to the season.
Good result for the b's yesterday. We were actually 9-3 down at one stage. Then won 8 out of the next nine frames to put us 11-10 up. Managed to scrape over the line in a tense decider between a very very lucky lewis and their captain!
In previous years at 9-3 down we would probably have ended up losing heavily without putting up much of a fight. Even at 9-3 down there was still an under lying believe that we could get back in to the game. If the 'b' team remains roughly the same throughout the season then we stand a very real chance of going one better than the 'a' team did this year at Selsy.
Yup, Graham can vouch for me insisting we were definitely going to win when we where something like 9-5 down! I think during the 15 match we actually had a bit of luck with the run of the balls. The tide was turning! Winning the match from there was inevitable!

Im not so sure on Internationals as it was only decided a couple of AGMS ago that they would be allowed to play for the B side after a casting vote in Milton Keynes (Shelley should be able to confirm that, but may not remember who actually had that vote )

So when are you gonna join the elite and play World Rules with us Steph?
The ELITE ladies world rules team that qualify for all of................errr.....................nothing each year
Or perhaps you meant the mens ELITE world rules set up which turn away perfectly good players Myself, Ming and the chief included on the basis that we were all busy on the opening day of the season thus not being required for the rest of the season, I have a strong feeling this sort of attitude may be in part to blame for the (potentially very good) mens side also qualifying for diddly squat.
Perhaps you ought to pull your head out of your own and the EPA's backside long enough to give the ever improving ladies blackball team (who qualify for events) a go and see just how strong a team they really are and with a very possitive attitude toward the game and each other, who knows Hazel if you were to do well people might start listening or at least not yawning when you go on another of your rants proclaiming yourself as the dominant force in ladies pool in oxford for the last 20 years etc etc........yawn.
My challenge to you Hazel is a simple one................shut up and prove it!!!

I'm not saying we're elite though we do usually finish in the top 3 in the region and we won it in 1999. The competition is much tougher at World Rules but we have a good friendly team with none of the bitching I've heard about in the Blackball ladies team.
Or perhaps you meant the mens ELITE world rules set up which turn away perfectly good players Myself, Ming and the chief included on the basis that we were all busy on the opening day of the season Only because the organisers of our county set up knew you weren't turning up due to playing Blackball county. We want dedicated players not players who think they can turn up when they feel like it and expect to play.

I have heard they're a good team and I know many of them and agree. As for being up the EPA's backside, it's only cos I know (as you do) there are so many more events at EPA and at top level they have the supreme players. I'd put money on the top 16 EPA players against the top 16 Blackball players in the country. Locally though it'd probably be a close match.

I don't think anyone would argue against the fact that I have been the top lady player in Oxford for well over 20 years. I know my reign won't last forever (unlike Malc )and I look forward to the day when someone does take over. At the moment I'd say Jaz is the closest to me - a Blackball player. And as for proving it - I think I've done that on many an occasion.
Oxfordshire B beat Oxfordshire C 21-6 yesterday at Colours. The first two legs were both won 8-1 with the third leg going 5-4 to the B's to complete the result.
I have joined the elite, Hazel: the Oxfordshire Men's Blackball team
Great atmosphere, fantastic success at National Finals, and hardly any bitches.
Nicely put
For ther record you are saying about Jaz being the closest I am not so sure I think there are few in the ladies team that are equally as good and now some of those are playing in the Mens C team which is a tougher game than the womens standard in the qualification games. Don't get me wrong there are some good ladies players in our section so fefore I get accused of being sexist by implying men are better, I would compare the games the women will play in the C team will be a similar standard to the ones that the ladies team played at the national finals where they play the best womens teams.
Therefore it can only benefit their all round game and our Ladies team in the long run and who knows maybe they have the most to gain from the C team because they have an opportunity to play harder games and more often as the C team plays all the same teams as the B team just on different days.
Watchout you might go from no 1 down to no 5
Would be interesting to see if any of the Oxford leagues had a ladies singles comp if you would dominate it year after year because I don't think you would now but certainly would have done so historically.
I have to say though your stats on Mondays do support your claim as you have the best record of all the female players and in the top section too with only me ahead of you in our team. Kev has not played as many games otherwise he would be top I am sure looking at his stats %.

Pshyco Sid claimed his first ever county win yesterday against Graham in the final leg after what can only be discribed as the most outragous fluke after knowcking in a yellow to win the game.
Justice maybe after the way he lost his second to me escaping the snookers to pot the black after the 3rd or 4th in a row !

Good for you Steph, the most important thing in pool is that you enjoy what you play whatever rules they are. I was hoping you'd soon come and play for our side as well.
Are the men allowed to play in the ladies team as well? If not, surely that's being sexist!

I agree and I sincerely hope that the ladies (who want to) will be given the opportunity to play in the C team as it would be incredibly unfair if those of us who qualified for the county squad are not given an opportunity and others who did not qualify are benefiting from playing in the Men's B section.
Good win for the A team yesterday against a very strong Hampshire side. Went to the wire but we snatched it 14-13. Anyone know the other scores? I know the B team got stuffed.
