Best table in Oxfordshire...
Permalink Closed

A new contender for the title, as the West Oxford Demos Club has just taken delivery of their brand new Supreme table with Strachan West of England cloth.

Not sure if they have made a mod but Lee says that the pockets don't refuse to accept balls if hit really hard in the centre of the corner pockets, which in my opinion is the only downfall of these excellent tables.

What with the un-hindered space around the table, a level floor, and Lee and his teammates promising to keep it in top nick, do we now have the best table in Oxfordshire?

Oh, and only 50p a game... smile

With great risk of doing a Beefy, why would the below be a bad thing?  Do you mean the pockets do refuse to accept balls....?

I've just heard that in response to this claim the Landlords at the Osney have agreed to build an extension to do away with ye olde wall that "occasionally" hinders play there....!

Yeah, Barn-eefy, I meant that on all other Supreme's I have played on the ball jumps out if hit really hard in the centre of the corner pockets (including the 6 up at Colours), whereas LBJ's rigorous table testing has yet to produce this sensation which is obviously a good thing. It looked to our eyes as if the plastic back of the pocket had a slightly deeper lip at the top, and so this may be the reason.

Well, well well - people finally starting to accept that the Supremes are the best tables going.
And it's about time the Demos got a new Table. I offered them a Free Supreme 3 years ago to which they stupidly refused.

I can't wait to give my old team mates some good licks on it biggrin

Who said anything about 'keeping the profits'?
I offered them a 50/50 deal (probably about £2 a week each knowing that place) but they opted to recover the old piece of 5hit instead.

'You can't polish a turd'  I think that's what the saying is.

So why are you still there? lol

Most of your committee must have parkinson's along with alzheimer's disease.
Tell them to check the stats of who's been winning what. Ha ha ha bloomin Ha biggrin

Can't remember which year but one year at the Nationals the tables were supremes and they did not refuse the corner bags either but the middle pockets well they were something else, tight, acute you name it.

Will be interesting to see how the table plays when we go there during the Winter League.

If they have repalced the Pool table maybe Lee can do something about the Bar Billiard table as well biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Thats your opinion but not everyone elses as the posts on here indicate.

The demos has the advantage of space in my opinion

Yes, they are nice. Saw them up there last time I popped in. Credit should go to both Riley's and Colours for replacing their old tables with quality Supreme ones.

if you want to persist with childish names go ahead I don't care...

Well aren't you the clever dick then but there are lots of things that make the best table other than the table itself and space mean't space around the table to be able to cue properly.

The best table is the best table to play on and to me if a table is fantastic but you have to play 50% of the shots with a different cue or the but raised 6 inches in the air then its not that good really.

Rileys new beige tables without any shadow of a doubt after last nights experience.

Lets see maybe we should ask where people think the best venue is ????? biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

You also have to consider the length of time a venue has had a table - yes, the Demos table is fast, but will of course slow down a bit over time. Riley's tables (with the shall we say 'less than caring' Riley's punters) will soon become average again, unless the staff care for them - I'm sure you'll do a great job, Malc, but it also needs full-time staff to make sure they're not being mistreated for them to give a great length of service.

That's one area that none of us can argue about the Osney table. Apart from the 'Anti-Dayo' table that was there briefly, the table itself has always been in pretty much immaculate condition. If only the room was a foot wider - and the bar 10 feet longer... smile

There you go again putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5 what school of maths did you go......

Where did I use the word Anti or the Word Osney Arms ????? confusedconfusedconfusedconfused in my post about explaining my definition of a good table.

Putting comments like that on here leads to trouble and you should know that of all people.

Don't post things that imply things that are not said

Here we go.

Best Table - The Catherine Wheel has a very nice looking table
Best Cloth - The Osney Arms, Always kept Good
Best Food - The Berkshire Arms
Best Space for Table - A1 Pool Hall (Back Room)

Now all we need to do is mix these up and we would get a good venue and good food. LOL
