So seeing as the students won do do they earn home advantage next year or will the venue be the same surely a home and away policy should be in such a prestigous event.

That's fine then. Thanks for the clarification - as long as I know that there's not a fair selection process in place for determining the 'town' team, I shant bother expressing an interest to you in playing in it, as I did after last years event.

I shall leave it up to others to decide whether they think that's the best way of organising the tournament or not. No big deal, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed. cry

Town team should be a fair represenation of the town's resident pool players not the same one's each year. Thats my feelings on the subject but as to how you decide it well there are various ways.

those cups of tea set us up great! Value at just £1.20 a cup I tell you.. Lei only had 4 pints before his match which was a minor miracle.. managed to pot a total of 0 balls in his 3 frames..

I seem to recall a similar thing last night with not many of them going to the bar either and it wasn't because they won.

Just a trial pre-selsey warm up. Sipping Tea

Fortunately, we arrive at Selsey thursday night so required  Chugger blood/alcohol levels will be correct by Friday morning.

Lack of match/drinking practice was clearly apparent Pouty

Thats OK Malc - no further action required smile  I sorted this last year so not a recent development.

They've been notified of our match date and have confirmed in writing that our results will be included within the official results tally this year.

Come on the TOWN!!!

I can't imagine that either the guys or the girls would want the teams to be mixed. I think that would result in a lower quality of competition all round.

I can't see the likes of your team enjoying completely thrashing a few uni girls. That'd barely be worth getting out of bed for.

Of course the local lasses might teach those uni men a thing or two...
Perhaps it would be to your team's advantage after all Malc!!!

I would have to agree Jaz, wink but what I meant was something like men v men and the women v women say 4 or 5 a team.

It was suggested to me a while ago, (90's) when the sports council turned down having more than one competition (i.e. men) for the table pool as they call it.

I think that since the change of the committee, (due to the old secretary death around 3 years ago) and the competition starting to become limited they have decided to "maybe" get more results into the tournament from each sport. confused

Maybe 7 best of 5's mixed doubles matches would be more fun - with no talking of course. biggrin

Thats right you don't agree with talking in doubles. some people like to ask their partner for their opinion on a shot after all its a partnership not two indivuals playing if you want that might as well have a 2 person match rather than doubles.

I think a Scotch doubles would be far more interesting.

for those who are not familiar its a format where each partner takes alternating shots not visits with no disucssions between the shots so each person is totally on their own. It means a very strong player with a weak player is not as good as two good players etc.

Beefy they sound like they need more scores in to the pot,
Maybe a Out of town V Gown,
Malc, I'm sure Rose Hill is out of town, so we could still use you.

id've thought that for next year, at the very least, that the town men would want to keep it the same format to try and regain the trophy (and bragging rights) they dramatically lost this year..

Good match today girls but the town team shone through and won 4-1.

Well done to us. We had a late substitute with Carrie Francombe replacing Katie Challen who unfortunately lost to Nicki Hoskins first match but we won all the rest. wink

Scores were as follows:

Carrie Francoomb 1 - 3 Nicki Hoskins
Kerry Alderson 3 - 2 Nicki M
Hazel Debrowski 3 - 0 Rachel
Lorren Thomas 3 - 1 Jane carpenter
Jaz venning 3 - 0 Rachel Houlton

Hope I got this right as not copying from my scorepad!

A very tight game in the second leg - Kerry put together a very strong and patient performance to comeback from 2-0 down in the second match to get us a win - this was at a critical stage of the match to avoid us going 2-0 down overall and needing all the rest to win!  That set us on a winning streak, which continued til the finish.

Lorren did a grand job too winning on her debut - and Hazel and Jaz continue their Town v Gown 100% record.

Many thanks to Carrie for standing in at the last minute - hope you had a good time!  You had a tough opponent but put up a respectable fight.

Very well done everybody!  Trophy residing at A1 til next year smile.

Also thanks to the Uni girls - you were good company and I think we all had had a fun day. It was great that you stuck around for a few drinks and games of killer afterwards.

Jaz
