Hi, Welcome to the area. Where exactly are you? There's World Rules leagues in Bicester, Witney, Wallingford/Didcot. I'll put you in touch with them when I know where you are. Glad to have another World Rules player here, the guys on this site will love you.
Cheers guys. From near Abingdon, so Bicester and Witney don't really appeal. Maybe keen on Wallingford n Didcot; any idea on the standard? I appreciate Oxfordshire seems to be a Blackball heavy county so if all the best players are playing in Blackball leagues maybe it would be better to think about switching?

They think it's all over - IT IS NOW(Kenneth "LUCKY" Wolstenhome)
I'm from Abingdon too Winter, maybe we could meet up sometime, there's a good pool/snooker club in town. I play in the Abingdon league and a couple of Oxford leagues but they're all Blackball rules which ain't too bad once to get to know them.
Hi, and dont forget to introduce yourself m8 as we dont have any anonymous posters on here now.
Sorry yeh, I'm Matt, I'm 23, and from near Abingdon. Just in the Easter holidays (for the next month) before my last term at Cambridge uni. After that, In June I'll be properly back in Abingdon.
In Cambridge everyone plays World Rules so that's what I'm used to. My only experience of Blackball is Cambridge's recent close 47-43 win over Oxford in the Varsity pool match (which we were delighted with given that we'd no idea what was going on with the rules!). I wasn't that keen to be honest. Didn't mind the skill shots, but I didn't like the free shot on the foul stuff...

Heya, yeh that would be awesome - not got anyone to play with around here. I'm around every day for the next month, so any time you want a hit let me know :) In fact I'm planning on heading down to Oracle this afternoon, and will probably be there most days in the next week. So get keen! :D

Fair enough. It's not the ruleset of choice for most though. :D How did they do? :P
If your from Cambridge you have probably heard of AndyLucas who plays and captains the A team at Black Ball in the county set ups.
I think most prefer blackball rules if you ask around here but to be fair there a few things which could be changed in both.
EPA would be fine if they removed that bloody DF rule. You should have to hit your own ball first after that its fair game which is the black ball way. You can pot their ball as long as you hit yours first !
In blackball I think its fair most don't like the skillshot allowing you to blast into a pack and pot your opponents balls without nominating it first. Thing is the rules are designed to speed up the game so awarding a foul for disturbing the pack would be counter productive as players would be reluctant to do it in case they accidentally knocked their opponents ball in.
I must say I prefer the world rules break though. If you pot a red and nominate reds you are reds wether you pot or not but if you nominate the other set and miss its still open. Also only one shot for going in off is a good rule to.
Come and play Blackball rules for a season or two before you knock em.....

lol, we shall see! I'm always happy to play for the lights - if you lose then you know you're paying for the experience of playing a good player; if you win - free pool! :D
