It is with deep sadness that i have to report the death of Ray Sturgess this morning.  He died after a very short battle with cancer.
For those that know him, will know he was one of the nicest blokes anyone will ever know.
RIP Ray.

Thats terrible news, i had heard on the grapevine that he was in hospital with cancer but didn't realise quite how far along things were.

As you say, he was the nicest bloke you could ever meet and will be missed by a great deal of people from all around the country.

Very sad news. I've known Ray for probably 15 years plus and he's always been a really nice genuine guy who'd do anything for anyone.
He will be missed by many.

RIP Ray.

Have to say, there's not many people who were 110% likeable, everytime you you met them. Ray was certainly one of those

played Ray a couple of times in the recent sunday league and on both occasions played the game in great spirit and came across as an all round nice guy.

Ben you weren't the only one who did not realise how far along it was. Ray did manage to come out of the hospital for a few short visits one to WIN a BAR BILLIARD match int he Wallingford league and another when he came to the Tandem for a brief visit.

The Tandem Pool / Bar Billiards teams will not be the same without Rays bubbly character and friendly attitude.

R.I.P Ray cry

For all those that have expressed to me their interest regarding Ray's Funeral this coming Friday please feel free to join Mark and myself who are meeting around 2pm at the Tandem. We will then make our way to the church at approximately 2.30pm which is a short walk around the corner.

Please note the church has limited parking and therefore I think it would be nice if this was left available for Ray's immediately family etc. There is a large number of parking places opposite the Tandem by the social club and Doctors surgery plus the Tandem also has a car park and as we will be returning there after the church service I don't think John will mind people parking there.

In reply to keith's post above, the funeral at the church is an open affair with the family only going on to the cremtorium after, with the wake back at the Tandem. Also, the family have asked for family flowers only.
All donations to cancer research are welcome.
For those that are going to the Tandem, there is a bucket at the bar which they are collecting to make a donation to Cancer Research.

Thanks for the info Keith and Mark. I've booked the day off so I can attend so I'll see you at The Tandem. Do you know if there is any specific requirements regarding clothing as when my best friend died a couple of years ago the family requested that black was not to be worn and I'd hate to be the odd one out.

Hi Hazel, no requirements on clothing - just as long as some are worn wink

I'm unable to attend tomorrow due to work commitments, so hopefully Ben can pay respects for both of us.

I mainly got to know Ray when accompanying Ben to his bar billiards matches.  He always had some good chat, and was always coming back from winning a trophy somewhere.  It doesn't surprise me at all to hear that one of the last things he did was to go and win just one more match.  Ray brightened up those Tandem evenings for me, and I am so sorry that he has now gone.

Thanks Ray
