Well we're pretty much at the half way stage so here's a roundup of each section:
Section One: Nathan Ball heads the section with 5/5 wins, Jason Buck and old timer Malcolm Lewis lead the chasing pack with 4 wins. Still in the hunt though are the usual suspects Matty Challen, Tom Weeks and Adam Brown. Jamey Street and Kevin McIlroy so far struggling to assert themselves but there is still plenty of opportunity to turn things around. The withdrawal of Chris Webb has mixed things up a little bit with a bye added into the fixture list giving some players a match in hand.
A long way to go in this section so it's hard to predict a likely winner and runner up.
Section Two: Similar to Section Two, Rhys Freemire is leading the group with 5/5 wins however Shaun Taylor, Graham Hornblow and Andrew Gee are close behind with 4 wins and the next four players, Nick, Ben, Jamie and John are all capable to closing the gap.
Paul Carter, Craig Coles, Nicki Hoskins and Julian Wood are fighting for the wooden spoon!
Section Three: A very close section so far with Dave Crawford, Tom Williams, John Street and Peter de Banks all on 4/5 wins, Mark Trafford and Keith Hollis only one win behind making it extremely difficult to call who's favourite at this stage to finish 4th let alone 1st!
Only James Watson yet to record a win but has recorded a Break and Clear!
Ladies Section: This section is still taking time to get properly warmed up. Players really need to get themselves sorted, get matches arranged sooner as there are still a number of June matches to be played, plus a number of May-July matches to be sorted on top of the standard July matches. No-one else is going to arrange them for you except you and your opponent. Please don't wait for your opponent to call you, if everyone does that we'll have no matches arranged at all!
Summary: Most matches are being arranged in good time, a few have slipped into the following month which needs to be avoided for the future. The issue of reporting clearances from the break is clearly not happening consistly between sections. How many you have against your name does absolutely nothing to your position, it's purely to demonstrate high performance of pool playing.
With arranging matches it's working pretty well so far, ideally towards the end of each month you should be planning your match for the following month, especially as people will be away on summer holidays over the next few months. Ladies are not as good as the men yet but the men have had five months practise!
Trophies: I am trying to sort out a couple of annual trophies for Section One and The Ladies Section but this depends on obtaining sponsorship as all of the entry fees are allocated to the prize fund.
Depending on how successful I am with obtaining sponsorship I'll also look into annual trophies for Section Two and Section Three and individual trophies for each Section Winner and possibly Runners Up and Third Place. For the first year this may be tricky as paying for the annual trophies is a one-off expense but around £70 per trohpy for something decent.
Presentation Night: I know it's a bit early to think about this but it's always best to start planning early! My thoughts on this are to not have a presentation night in the normal style at Rileys or other pool venue but to have a Singles League Curry Night probably somewhere on Cowley Road. A curry, a little bit of beer, presentation of (trophies/) prize money.
Next season: A few people have asked already about how next season is going to work. At the moment I'm not sure but I would like to keep the same format, i.e. 12 players per section playing one match per month. As there are different entry fees for each section it's not necessrily appropriate to have straight forward promotion and relegation of top and bottom two players, however I'd expect the players winning sections two and three to be keen to challenge themselves and move up a section even though it means paying more to enter (don't forget you'll have won enough money to cover the entry fee...).
One complication with this is people dropping out and new players coming in. I'll deal with this as I see fit to put people in the appropriate section. For example I have interest from Tim Williamson and James Thorpe (I like name dropping!) and they are clearly Section One players.
Have you got any ideas how the play off part will work in Jaurary yet as the format means you will be palying 3 matches if your unlucky enough to miss the first 4 and win the play off. Thats a lot of games to get in one month so it might be worth considering asking those players in the bottom 8 at the end of November to get their matches fixed for December early so perhaps the play off games could be spread over two months.
Next year
I think you need to work on free tables for all sections next year !

Yup, I have thought about the play-offs. As it's only for money and not for position or trophies, I'm going to be happy to let it carry on beyond January is necessary, even if that means it carries into the next season.
just a suggestion about free tables. with cost cutting the way it is, free tables for all sections might fall on deaf ears unless there was some way of a one off payment to the club that will be hosting the matches. A small token cosidering how many matches get played across all three divisions. i'm up for the singles league next year and would be happy to pay slightly more to enter the league if it meant i wouldn't have to pay for any tables
Pay the club to yuse the tables I think your a little off their mate.
The club gets the bar sales for a small outlay of what 20p per hour for the light now I do accept if the club is full they are losing table money but only when the club is full and therefore they should look at it as speculating to accumalate.
They specualte a free table in return for bar sales now maybe it should be imposed that the club expects a two drink per person minimum purchase or else they reserve the right to charge for the table hire - this might be worth tabling as a back up.... but pay them I don;'t see any reason to do that !

lets hope that the club that hosts the match doesn't decide to charge for all leagues then, that would make it a little too expensive and hard to find a suitable and capable venue.
Lee Challis v Tom Weeks Julian Wood v Graham Hornblow Nick Mansell v Ben Scott Keith Hollis v Tom Williams
Conny Meisenberg v Verity Anton (May-July) Verity Anton v Shelly James (June) Carrie Francombe v Verity Anton (July) Jodie Rabin v Carrie Francombe (August) Verity Anton v Jaz Venning (August)
Verity, you've only played one match where others have played four and five.

Just an early reminder that the deadline for entry into the 2010/11 Singles League is 31st October. This includes full payment. Lack of full payment nullifies your entry.
Currently I have 33 signed up with three having paid. I hope to have five sections which needs 60 people, so in effect there are 27 places available.
Those who are currently near the top of their section in the present season cannot request to offset their entry fee with their possible winnings. This is because your possible winnings are not definite until December 2009.

There will be no exceptions.

how about getting their entry fees for this season

With the current season starting to come into the last few months of matches, each section's table is taking shape.
Section One: Jason Buck and Nathan Ball still lead Section One, but Tom Weeks, Matty Challen, Adam Brown and Malcolm Lewis are all in with a shot of winning the section.
Section Two: Rhys Freemire remains on top with Shaun Taylor and Andrew Gee close behind. October's match between Rhys and Shaun is likely to be the title decider, although Shaun still has to play both Graham Hornblow (4th) and Nick Mansell (5th).
Section Three: Tom Williams (who's he?) is the currently leader in this ever changing section but will be overtaken by the winner of the September match of Peter de Banks (2nd) v John Street (3rd). Dave Crawford and Keith Hollis are close behind in 4th and 5th.
Ladies Section: Not much to report on this section with the number of unplayed matches. Shelley James (1st) and Nicki Kinsey (3rd) are both unbeaten with Jaz Venning (2nd) having lost just one match.
Message to all, in the autumn and winter months, lets make sure we keep getting these matches arranged and played!
Tom.

Section One: Nathan Ball, Tom Weeks, Malcolm Lewis and Jason Buck are all on six wins but Tom has one game in hand. Adam Brown is sitting in 5th place also with a game in hand so could join in the party. Several key matches coming soon but of note in October we have Adam v Jason and Nathan v Tom.
Section Two: Shaun Taylor leads Rhys Freemire on frame difference with Graham Hornblow, Nick Mansell and Andrew Gee all just one win behind. In November there are a few keys matches, Andrew v Graham and Shaun v Nick.
Section Three: Peter de Banks tops this section with Tom Williams, John Street and Keith Hollis one win behind. Dave Crawford has a chance to close the gap if he beats Tom in October, but he won't, so he doesn't.
Ladies Section: Jaz Venning leads the section, although Nicki is one win behind with a game in hand. Shelly James sits in third spotm ahead of Hazel Dabrowski, Verity Anton and Carrie Francombe. Sheree Houseman, Lauren Thomas and Jodie Rabin are all competing for the wooden spoon, all without a win between them, but only one can stay winless!

Tom, you still don't have me in the paid category for next year even though I paid you for entry for both men's and ladies at county fives. I'm hoping this is because you haven't updated the list rather than you running off with my money and making a new life for yourself...
Also, has a decision been made about the pay-out structure for next year? I am against the money being distributed across all sections (ie the lower sections effectively subsidising the higher ones) when all entry fees are the same (bar section 1 obviously), and a few others that I have spoken to have said the same. I'm not sure everyone has spotted that that was your intended plan...
And just for the record, I'm not one win behind with a game in hand, I just have a game in hand!
Section One: Jamey Street v Kevin McIlroy (October) Matty Challen v Lee Challis (October) Tom Weeks v Jason Buck (November) - being played tonight Malcolm Lewis v Jamey Street (November)
Plus all December matches need to be played.
Section Two: Jamie Saczak v Julian Wood (November)
Plus four December matches need to be played.
Section Three: Daniel Stockwell v Ross Gibson (November)
Plus four December matches need to be played.
Ladies Section: Verity Anton v Lauren Thomas (July-October) Lauren Thomas v Jodie Rabin (October-December) Verity Anton v Jaz Venning (August) Hazel Dabrowski v Verity Anton (September) Jodie Rabin v Hazel Dabrowski (October) Hazel Dabrowski v Shelly James (November) Verity Anton v Sheree Houseman (November)
Plus all five December matches need to be played.
To enable me to be able to arrange a Presentation Night all these matches need to be played asap. I know it's a busy time of year but you've had since October 2008 to think about playing these matches!
Once all the league matches are played we can crack on with the Play Off matches.
I'm going to propose that subject to people's availability we hold each section's play off on a single day, probably best of eleven matches (best of seven for the Ladies Section). This gets each section's play off completed in one day.
Can everyone who is currently in a play off position let me know if they can't make any of the weekend dates in January asap?
If we can get the league matches completed asap, but the play offs take longer to arrange, I will most likely arrange a presentation night for those who have finished in the top four of each section for sometime towards the end of January and will present the winners of the play off with their prize as their final is completed.
Plan for the presentation night is to book a large table at one of Oxford's Indian restaurants.
Section One: Jamey Street v Kevin McIlroy (October) Matty Challen v Lee Challis (October) Tom Weeks v Jason Buck (November) - being played tonight Malcolm Lewis v Jamey Street (November) being played on Tuesday 22nd December 2009
Plus all December matches need to be played.

V and I pare playing Wed 23rd at A1. You should have all my other games as played now Tom, dunno if you have picked these up from my posts?
As for dates in Jan, would be best to steer clear of weekend of 23/24 - this is the finals of the Blackball tour. The ladies are playing on the Sat and the Men on Sunday.
