This is a thread started to see everyones opinion about the system please feel free to make any coment. come on lets be heard. Who out there thinks to system stinks????
We have 2 youth teams and could easily produce a third.
We have a link from youth to senior sides which have already born fruit as well producing an outlet for youth players to play at the men's level as proved by the results of the C team last season
We have 3 men's teams and could easily start a fourth but for the region stopping us.
We have have won the event, had another final appearance and another semi-final appearance in four years.
We now have two ladies teams. We are in fact, the biggest county in the country in terms of teams ... despite having one of the smallest populations.
We hold trials like last weekend where over 80 people attended.
We are financially sound despite the current climate. In fact we are hoping to start bursaries for succesfull youth to help with cost of Nationals.
We have, I think, the best infrastructure (e.g. website, forums newsletters etc) of all the counties.
We operate 5 ways to be retained and open, well advertised fair trials every year and a system that allows (usually) movement between the teams. (Recent EBPF rules though do hinder this a little.)
Now let us see what things people, that are unpaid, have to deal in the running of such sides.
You have 60 people to organise for a Nationals event. Team places are short so a trial organised. People who really wanted to ... are not going to play. (Funny you should feel the system has let Craig Coles down Scooby .... )
One person, who was given a place outright, can't pay upfront so an extension is given by the club. Turns out that person is counting on bets to come off to pay to go but doesn't tell the organisor. Bets don't come off but still he doesn't tell organisor he doesn't intend to come. Organisor hears all this from others. Organisor spends the monday, tuesday trying to contact the player ... trying to find out if the rumours are true and if another player (who failed at that trial but really wanted to go)needs to be found ... however player doesn't pick up, respond to texts or ring back. Eventually, taking the action of hiding my number on the wednesday before the tournament, the player picks up. Oh ... sorry ... can't go. Was the player ever going to get in contact? Probably not!!
As it happens player changes mind yet again and goes anyway for Friday only ... then really wants to stay ... organisor (of the system that doesn't work) manages to organise money from the club and a deal from organisors to let this 'young up and coming player' stay despite his financial situation. This player then repays it all by jumping over a sea wall, being unable to play, leaving his team mates short - in fact you caused my replacement (I was actually badly ill) to have to play for the B's as opposed to the A's in my place. Instead of going home I had to play an extra match ... at the end of which I could not continue and tried to return home but I didn't make it. I spent the next 5 days in the JR cardiac ward! Now ... those players that had to trial for Nationals and failed ... did you feel bad for them like you do Craig now? ... wasting a spot they worked for all season and you pissed away?
This player has to date, cared about the provision of a system so much he stuck two fingers in the air to paying the money he owes to this non profit organisation back. He also rang before trials to say he couldn't trial because of his ankle looking for a W'card ... however, the ankle didn't stop him playing 3 hours of snooker day before! Guess he just thought we were stupid or something!!
Now, when you have to deal with people like this, 'systems' just don't really have the answers.
The system does work, has worked and will continue to work to try and develop players and give opportunites DESPITE experiences with people like yourself who do not have a clue what you are talking about or even have basic common decency.
This forum is a joke ... and no good for the county. It contains gutless, clueless idiots who have views behind keyboards but when it comes to backing them up with actions are just lame. How many of you that have been bitching the last few days came to AGM? None ... and what is more .. even if you had ... you'd have stood at back of the room ... said nothing .... then bitched afterwards.
If you can't be bothered to simply turn up on a single day to make a difference, or even submit a proposal, but instead choose to so blatently attack those that spend literally 100's of hours unpaid for this county in such a cowardly fashion, then your views are not only worthless but your actions on this forum define who and what you are.
