There has been some interest in the creation of a section for the lady pool players of Oxford. If you are female and are interested send me a message.
Early suggestions are to have a section which runs to the same rules as the other sections but with the following differences:
Matches to be played at A1 Pool Hall
Matches to be best of 15 (or other figure)
Entry fee to be £15 (or other figure)
Players could be limited to 10 to keep in sync with the othersections.
If you're interested send me a message plus your opinion on length of match and cost of entry fee. The cost of entry fee determines the prize fund etc.
Marvelous, but feel free to offer your opinions on the bits that need confirming.
Length of match - best of how many?
Entry fee - £15 or other?
If we can get eight signed up then it's worth persuing. 12 is ideal although I may stop at 10 with the first round of matches played in April, then it will run to the same timings as the other sections.

Sorry I've only just got round to looking at this!
I would in principle be up for playing, although I'm going to have a lot on so put me down for now but if you get enough players without me I might sit out!
As I'm going to be quite busy, a small 'best of' would be better for me. 15 absolute tops I think, with 9 the minimum. I'm happy anywhere between.
Entry money, I'd be happy with anywhere between £10 and £20 but no more really after paying £50 for the other league!
I have quite a few female pool contacts so will pass on details to all of the county lot plus a few others. However that will be about 25 people so it will have to be first come first served!
Tom shall I get them to send you a text or something? Or is email easier?
The play-off will be between those finishing 5th and lower.
It would be good to get 12 people in the section (to make it more equitable to the other sections) however I'll run it with 10.
Matches can be played for free at A1 Pool Hall (many thanks to Jaz for arranging that). Other venues to host matches at players discretion and cost.
One match per month, to be arranged between players.
So the next four or six people will complete the line up.
I'm hoping to encourage other county or near-county standard players for the sake of improving ladies' pool in Oxford. So Lauren, Laura, Hazel..........

1. Jaz Venning 2. Sheree Houseman 3. Katie Challen 4. Carrie Francombe 5. Verity Anton 6. Nicki Hoskins 7. Shelly James 8. Lauren Thomas 9. Hazel Dabrowski
I'm a definite Tom, I'll inform the EPA county ladies too for you. Good job I saw you tonight or I wouldn't have known about this as I don't bother looking at this thread as I'm not in the Oxford Singles Pool league. Maybe something should be posted in General so others look at this too.

So two more needed to make it a 12 person section. I'm pretty confident two more will be found in the next few days. I'll draw the fixtures once the other two are confirmed and will publish the fixtures on the forum and website then.
I want to bring the Ladies Section in line with the other sections i.e. to have the last match played in December 2009. This means that there will be a monthly match from May to December (eight matches) with three other matches to be arranged, one from May to July, one from July to October and one October to December. In other words, you have a three or four month period in which to arrange each of the other three matches. Let me know if that's not clear...!
Match 1: May Match 2: June Match 3: July Match 4: August Match 5: September Match 6: October Match 7: November Match 8: December Match 9: May - July Match 10: July - October Match 11: October - December
Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void, without the slightest inkling of who or what is out there. If you had known anything about the true nature of the game, anything at all, you would've hidden from it in terror

1. Give me £10. 2. Send me a message (text/email/PM) to confirm they've seen this message. 3. Arrange their May match. 4. Inform me when each match is arranged.
Please also note from the fixtures list that there is one match per month May through December and in addition three extra matches to be played. One during May through July, one July through October and one October through December.
Responsibility for arranging matches lies with you and your opponent, not me or A1 Pool Hall.
Any questions or problems don't hesitate to contact me.
Tom.

I thought it was a really good match - took a long time though, espescially the first two frames! We were level pegging til 2-2, then Nicki forged ahead to 4-2 lead with some really good finishes... including a doubled last colour then doubled black to steal one of the frames. And I thought I was the doubling queen Another frame I just failed to hit a cushion early in the frame and nicki took out a very neat clearance to keep me off the table.
I pulled out an unlikely clearance in the next starting with a skill shot, only to go in off the black (why do I still do it when i know its going to happen?? doh!)
Back against the wall at 5-2, I pulled out my break and dish I played well in the next two frames, and had got the score was back to 5-5. Its tough to win 4 frames in a row against Nicki though, and unfortunately in the last frame a couple of smart shots gave Nicki the best table position and I was unable to stop her.
Well done Nicki - even though I lost I rather enjoyed that. It was a good match.
Yeah it was a good match. I was doing a few crazy things and going for slightly ambitious clearances towards the end, but I think it was just that it was rather a long match! Thank god it wasn't best of 19!!
But great play to bring it back to the decider, plus great way of making up for your in-off with a break and dish!!
