Oxford Ladies A 10 v 11 West Berkshire Oxford Ladies B 9 v 12 West Berkshire
Another very impressive performance from the ladies B in particular. Top marks to Sheree who topped the scoring for the Bs with 2/2 on the day!
Ladies A just missed out in a final frame decider after being put in an impossible snooker. It was a pretty impressive last leg for the A's though, winning 5 frames in the last leg to give us a fighting chance.
The mens A also put in a fantastic fight back in their match from 11-5 down. Suddenly they seemed to click into gear and the comeback was very much on. Winning 8 out of the remaining 11 frames was nearly enough, but sadly the team just missed out once again.
The atmosphere as the As were coming back was a pleasure to watch, and our guys really did deserve to steal it. Nice to see the team rallying like that rather than falling apart. Good stuff guys - I'm sorry you didn't get the win but it was a joy to be there cheering you on. A bit like Selsey in March I thought - tho without the winning
West Berks C 15 - 12 Oxfordshire C (I think but we lost anyway !)
What an eventful day.
It started with Shaun breaking down on the outskirts of Newbury and not being able to make the B team match as he was towed back to Oxford.
Our venue was the Black Horse Pub (a lovely little pub with one table - great although the way the first 9 frames went it looked hopeful for a reasonable finish.
Well this is where the fun started.......
I walk into the pub to be met by a rather frustrated Kenny saying the opposition are claiming two frames for us being late at 12.40pm - I have played for over 5 years now and this has never happened and that given matches start at 1pm !
It turned out there was some quirky rule that had been brought in for matches with one table where by they should start at 12pm ?????????????? and not the standard 1pm ????????????? I wouled love to know who's responsible for communicating this to the various teams when they are due to play at venues with this criteria.
Phone calls were made to John along with their captain but alas no joy so we start 2 nil down ! That became 3 before I started a mini recovery with Oxford winning the next 4 to go into the lead - oh I wish we could have stopped there as it was all downhill after that.
Then the captain comes over and hands us each raffle tickets ???? He then expalined that the pub does a BBQ every sunday and the ticket was to go and get WHAT WE WANTED from it ! Chicken fillets in buns, pork steaks in buns or burgers with garnish etc and they were cooked by a local chef to top it all off. Then they come over and told us if we wanted more just to ask at the bar for another ticket and this went on till 6pm plus.
So as you can see it was a rather unual county match !
No 3's but a few got 2/3 myslef being one of them.

So, not only do away teams suffer the away disadvantage of having to spend the whole day in a venue with only one table, they have to get there an hour earlier or get docked frames?
All County venues should have 2 tables per team in my opinion. The fact we always seem to play our opening fixture away at Berkshire every single year on their one table set-up at The Star actually acts as a disincentive to new squad members.
according to people in the 'b team the other venue had 4 tables and they only used 2 of them so can anybody work out why we were crammed into a tiny pub with 1 crap table?

The rule is that all matches to be played on 1 table should, where possible, start at 12 AND that it is the home team captain's responsibility to inform the away team that this is going to be the case.
Now Ash, did receive a phone call on Sunday morning (I think). The W Berkshire captain is certain he told Ash the new time, Ash is certain he did not. However, I will be sorting this situation out as letting someone know of a different start time an hour or so before is not on either! When I get the scoresheets I will have a look.

Ash, Berkshire now play out of Riley's (a good Riley's too!) and matches are played on multiple tables. We were back home in Oxford before at 3.30 this year!
Oxfords two Youth teams set today to play berkshire and with the A team playing them first soon found them selfs 9/3 down and nothing going our way, but this is when things started to turn for us slowly we pull frame after framewe are now at 10/8 and with all the boys getting behind each other it all comes down to the final frame with Tom Hooper playing it for us and winning it for a nail bitting 11/10 win away.A good 3/3 for Jamie saczak, And after a nightmare start all ended well. Well done boys.
The B youth fell just short losing out 12/9 which is still a good result
Ladies A let this one slip, losing 10-11 yesterday against Wiltshire. There were some good frames, but there were others where we had our chances and just didn't take them. Oxford not at their best! Hopefully our B's can go one better when they play their fixture in a couple of weeks.
2009/10 EBPF County Fixtures - Southern Region Final Version As agreed at Regional AGM, any match to played on only 1 table must be started at 12pm. It is for the home manager to inform the away team when this is necessary.
The above note is on the regional fixture page - Any chance we can have a definitive list of matches that are on 1 table ?

We weren't at our brilliant best for this match either. Although the win was comfortable we didn't take all our chances, and consequently saw our lowest score against this team in recent times.
3/3 for Jaz & Katie, including a break and dish for Jaz .
Ox Ladies B 6? v 15? Berkshire
A tough first leg saw our girls go 6-1 down, which was always going to be tough to recover. However, having mounted an awesome comeback against this team at the away fixture we knew all was not yet lost. There was dramatic improvement in the second leg, losing only 3-4, but this left the girls needing to win all of the final leg which proved too much to ask this time.
Good performances from Lorren and Jodie who both got 2/3.
Mens B 14 v 13 Wiltshire
The guys will have to give an update with full details as I wasn't present, but I know Kenny and Nick M got 3/3, and the match was won more comfortably than the scoreline suggests, having crossed the winning line earlier and then lost the last few frames.

The score was Ox Ladies B 12-9 Berks
You were going for it in the last leg we won this leg 5-2!
Ofordshire Youth 'A' need just 3points from there last three matches to be crowned Regoinal champs,This has come about after we beat Berkshire and wiltshire at home today. We went 4-0 down before the boys got stuck in and we win match 13-8 with Rhys and Tom Guaghan Getting 3/3's
We then go into match with wiltshire and this was a different story storming off to a 6-1 lead and by the end of the second set we need just one to win the match, the wins came thick and fast with again winning the set 6-1 and the whole match 16-5 with Yousif and luke both 3/3's
The b's got there first win by beating wiltshire 15-6 with three lads all winning 3/3 they were Philp Cassidy, Josh Merroit and Josh Mccamley well done boys
But there luck did not continue when Brekshire beat them 17-4
Loads of food good day had by all
Come on Oxfordshire First the region then the Nationals
Oxfordshire ladies didn't have the best of days yesterday...
The A team lost 12-9 after staging a mini comeback in the second leg, but it wasn't enough to beat the Hampshire ladies.
Unfortunately the B team also didn't fare particularly well, losing 17-4. Hampshire are becoming a very difficult team to beat though and are made up of mostly England players!
2 out of 3 for Shelley White, Nicki and Jodie (who would have got three apart from an in-off black!). Thanks also to Sheree for stepping in again as B team captain.
Men's A did well, going about 8-2 up I think, with the 2 frames being break-and-dishes! I think the final score was 15-12.
