This scoreline was a little flattering to us as we had a few moments of luck that went our way last night. Still, no more than the Plough had when we were beaten by the same score at the Keys......what goes around comes around I guess
D Frankum C Thomas D Smith M Hearne T Lawler B Viner G Hicks K Withers F Brett P Hearne
D Frankum P Hearne D Smith S Keep T Lawler M Hearne G Hicks K Withers F Brett C Thomas
D Frankum S Keep T Lawler K Withers F Brett M Hearne G Hicks P Hearne D Smith B Viner
The Keys let a 7-5 lead slip as they crashed to an 8-7 defeat last night. It was a close run thing but we really should have finished this off before the final few frames
K Withers P DeBanks M Hearne K Hollis S Keep M Morley C Thomas M Trafford T Keep N Buckingham
T Keep S Ponting M Hearne P DeBanks B Viner M Morley S Keep N Buckingham K Withers M Trafford
M Hearne S Ponting S Keep M Morley K Withers P DeBanks B Viner M Trafford C Thomas K Hollis
Well it seems that I may have to become a bit more of a regular poster the way controversy seems to be following our team of late...
Last night it all kicked off at the Peachcroft Social where the forum favourite Jock managed to nark the Plough SC right off. George did a shot on the opponents ball potting and thus causing a foul. Now some and indeed us (before we had the whole altercation with Hazels team) thought this was a deliberate foul and a wee bit out of order.
I shall not say exactly the words used but think Gordan Brown in a cabinet meeting and you get the idea. That coupled with George's imitable style to say just the right thing to make the person feel that tad more upset.
The reason for posting is just to point out that come the meeting before the next season I think Kevin is going to have to spell that ruling out to the masses.
That all said we won the night 9 - 6 :)
Oh and a word of warning to you all.... It looks set to be the case that from the Summer league George will be taking over the mantle of team captain.

OMG not this old coconut again....
FOULS
5d Failing to perform a legal shot LEGAL SHOT DEFINED :To play a legal shot the player must cause the cue balls initial contact to be with an on ball and THEN must either (a)Pot any on ball or balls ( see rule 6b ) OR (b)Cause the cue ball or any object ball to contact a cushion( see exception, rule 5g, snookers ).
So if when playing his shot, George played a ball of his colour first, then he has fulfilled the requirement of a legal shot. Appendix's (a) & (b) are extra requirements implamented to open the game up and stop the fudging by rollin up behind a ball....
Basically, as long as you play your ball/colour first you can do what you like and suffer the consequences of giving away a foul. Any reference to the "skill shot" as per previous posts is a red herring

That's all crystal clear to me. I may not agree that giving a foul, albeit legally, is the best way but judging by the reaction from the Plough SC they need to revisit the rule book and swot up. As it the player involved was so worked up by this his next visit didn't need the addition of a free shot as he just went on to clear the table.

All good fun ;)
I can never see what the fuss is all about as it's very rare that it gives the player, playing the foul, much of an advantage as George clearly found out last night...
POOR OLD GEORGE.............

I cannot agree with you here. I have played this shot on more than a handful of occasions and in the vast majority of cases it has worked in my favour.
When this shot is selected at the appropriate time (after careful consideration of your opponents balls and their likelihood of clearing up with a shot and a visit) and in particular in the ladies game (excessive pocket covering by ladies who couldn't clear the table if their lives depended on it) then it is very effective indeed.

Long live this foul!!!!
Sorry Jaz, I was implying "the better players" wouldn't benefit from it very often if playing "better players".
I'm sure George played it only because Hazel did it against him a few weeks ago; without much consideration of what advantage he was gaining or giving away

Let me correct you there Ming, I didn't play it against George but against another player in his team but it was George who kicked off about it.
This game was important tonight, not only for the league but as a confidence booster for when we meet in the semi finals. The game was played to a high standard with some 8 ball clearaces (sorry hazel)! But in the end we just managed to take it in what was a tactical deciding frame.
Good luck in upcoming games Wooton and we'll see ya in the semi final ( well I won't I'll be in las Vegas)!!!
