I have far more important things to worry about than when people are going to rearrange their pool matches for. Like for instance, turning Oxford white again tonight..... Muwwahahahahah

Your right barney you can't sign new players after Christmas, though the team lost anyway so it really doesn't make too much diference

Well actually it does. It makes the score 10-4 not 9-6. Those extra 3 frames could be important at the end of the season...

I think it does matter, not particularly with respect to the team or individual result, but teams and captains should know the rules.

It may be fortunate that the result wouldn't have changed if this hadn't happened, but the score was 0-0 when the names were put on the results card and someone out of the 10 people playing should have realised.

I agree that it's worrying that none of the 10 players knew the rules, presuming of course that rileys were not attempting to bend the rules! However, I'm guessing it was just a mistake and as the saying goes you learn by your mistakes! Also, I really can't see 3 frames making too much difference as neither team are in contention for a top two place

I didn't know about the Christmas rule...

And I guess its right for the frames not to count in the end - but most teams who turn up with 5 players prefer all games to get played, rather than 1 player to not even get a match desapite sitting around all evening. So I say good on rileys for not just playing with 4, and yes the result should be changed so Connors win don't distort anything.

Well here i go again biggrin
The Christmas rule as you all put it

Please find below copy of letter sent to all pub/clubs prior to start of winter league 2008/09 SEASON

Thursday, 14 August 2008

To all pool team captains,

May I take this opportunity to thank you and your pool team for entering into the BIGGEST and RATED the BEST pool league in OXFORD.

The League will start on Thursday 4th September 2008 with the Team Knockout which is the preliminary round and the first league game will be Thursday 11th September 2008.

May i remind all Team captains that if you win your match you need to text results to 077831 46445 within 24Hrs and it is the winning teams responsibility to post the result card.

On Friday 1st August we held are A.G.M at Rileys Snooker Club and it was decided that a few rule changes needed to take place and below is a list of rules that comes into force for the winter league.

RULE CHANGES TO TAKE EFFECT FOR THE NEW SEASON 2008/09

1.       A team may sign as many players on at the start of the season but players will only deemed registered for that team when they have played a game. Once that player has played he/she cannot transfer to another team at any stage during the season.

2.       Players can only transfer to another team if he/she has not played for any other team in the league.

3.       Teams cannot use any new players after the Christmas break regardless weather they have played or not. What this means is players have to play before Christmas to be eligible to play after.

4.       Any match be it played on a specified date or a rearranged date must consist of all 5 players competing on the same night.

5.       This year it has been decided to hold a finals night on Thursday 14th MAY 2009 at RILEYS. This will consist of all finals except in the case of 1 or more players playing in more than final. If this is the case the Team Knockout & Plate Final will definitely take place on finals night and 3 man team or doubles will be played prior to finals night.

6.       Presentation Night will take place on the Friday 15th MAY 2009 AT RILEYS and will consist of MENS AND LADIES SINGLES FINALS ONLY followed by presentation at around 10pm

Au contraire, mon ami........

If we (the Keys) win (or claim!) our match against you lot, we'll only be 3 pts behind the Red Lion, so I think frame difference could be a pivotal point.......

It is a big if........but we've had it cancelled once because of Selsey (not a problem) and then had the rearranged match (Weds last week) cancelled as well. We only have until Thurs next week to play it or else it's void. We've been willing and able to make both dates so far, so if we can't arrange a date to play we'll have to claim it as it's only fair (well, in my opinion anyway)........

From what I gather we were offered the chance to claim it in the first place anyway but turned it down.

Hi Matty
Just to clarify the situation after a discussion with the captain of crown house club 'B' i can confirm they have informed me that they have let you have the points as they cannot make the fixture before next thursday. so i have awarded cross keys a 10-0 scoreline and can you inform your captain to submit a card please with the 5 players who you wish the wins to be recorded against.

cheers

Julian
(Secretary)
