i dont think andrew and boinky are interested, i was talking to them last week about it and dan probably wont be able to afford it, not with selsey two weeks away.

Things are hotting up for Sunday. We have a very exciting line up of players. We have 16, but there is room for a few more so still let me know if you're interested.
Tom.

The date is now confirmed for Sunday 28th February at Rileys.
10.00am - doors open and tables open for practice and registration. 10.30am - end of registration. 10.45am - draw. 11.00am - matches commence.
A reminder for the schedule on Sunday. If you think you might have a problem being at Rileys for before 10.30am you MUST let me know before Sunday morning otherwise you risk being left out of the draw.
It's been suggested that for this tournament the draw is made one round at a time to make each match more competitive. I'm happy to do that as with 16 players there are only three rounds which need a draw made.
Best of eleven the whole way through. IF I get more than 16 then the "Prelim" round may be a little shorter but I'm not expecting anyone to turn up unannounced on the day so should know in advance.

If any drop out before the day then we'll make with what we've got. If I get any extras they'll be added in but there's been enough noise about this event so I doubt anyone will turn up unannounced.

Will God be allowed to play, Minx? and will Malc's Giro get to him on time...

Nothing as of yet Kev, and as I have to work late Saturday evening. and again very early this Sunday morning, I am afraid I am very doubtfulto be able to compete in this tournament.

Plus possibly
17. Dennis Deakin 18. Adam's mate
If on the day we have a few more than 16 players I propose the following:
* A prelim draw is made from the full list of players to play best of seven.
* The winner/s of the prelim round then go into the main draw of 16.
* The loser/s of the prelim don't pay any entry fee.
I don't want to make any prelim round too long as it will hold up the main competition.
With 16 players everyone's in the same situation, £50 entry for potentially a single best-of-eleven match.
I can't make a prelim round too long hence it being best-of-seven and I don't think it's fair to make someone pay £50 just for a best-of-seven match (which is what would happen for the loser/s).
The end result is we still end up with 16 players paying £50 so the prize fund isn't affected by someone not paying an entry fee.
It's not easy trying to be fair to all!
The other option is for me to pick the bottom couple of seeds and make them turn up to Rileys at 10am to play a prelim match but how could I possibly fairly pick the "bottom" two or four players, especially as I don't know someone of the players?!

I don't think i've every heard such tripe, no wonder teams wanna leave the Oxford Sunday League. Is this some university rowing competition format or are you using the same crystal ball as Hazel?
Are you available on 27th/28th March? It's my stepsons stag do and we could do with a stand up comedian...
I can't make a prelim round too long
Why? I do believe that there's 11 tables at Riley's. With some of the named individuals there's likely to be one or two 6-0, 6-1 results and one or two 6-5 results that will take a different amount of time to complete. Whilst you've said that you'll draw each round separately, there's no requirement for every match to be completed before making the draw for the next round

This one gave me a chuckle. As it's still open for anyone to turn up on the day, you don't even know how many players you've got so how on earth can you seed the players let alone work out how many prelims to play doh!
I know of at least one player on your list who is doubtful and I might even turn up for the free 7 frames of pool you're offering, though if I gotta play Malc the comp might not finish until Monday...

That's true, only on Tuesday was the last time but their internet connection seems to have been lost since then...
I doubt I'll play as I'm working Sunday night and my customary alcoholic intake which is essential in the later rounds will be curtailed.
Still, I'm hoping that Hazel will use her crystal ball and provide me with the numbers for the lottery

Yup, but if I limit it to the first 16, and one of them doesn't turn up...
Malc is looking unlikely so we have 16 other "confirmed".
Beyond that "Adam's mate" can be first reserve.
I've made efforts to ensure that everyone gets there promptly, so am quite keen to not make most people hang around waiting whilst a prelim round occurs so limiting to 16 is preferable IF I could be guarenteed those 16 will show but maybe I'm being more cynical than I need to be!

Understand what you are thinking mate, but unfortunatly whatever you come up with someone is going to find fault, hope you find a sensible solution, see you sunday.
Yesterday 11 of the 16 who "signed up" actually made it to Rileys. Rich Wharton and Adam Brown were stuck in Great Yarmouth, Tom Gaughan failed to answer his mobile, Rhys Freemire's mobile was turned off and Altaf Ali had to take his sons to football training.
First Round (Prelim):
Nathan Ball 6 - 0 John Kinsey Tim Williamson 6 - 2 Jamey Street Ben Scott 6 - 5 Pete Armitage
Quarter Finals:
Matty Challen 6 - 1 Dennis Deakin Tom Weeks 6 - 4 Dan Davy Nathan Ball 6 - 3 Julian Gorman Ben Scott 6 - 5 Tim Williamson
Semi Finals:
Tom Weeks 6 - 2 Ben Scott Matty Challen 6 - 4 Nathan Ball
Final:
Tom Weeks 6 - 3 Matty Challen
£300 to Tom Weeks £150 to Matty Challen £50 to Ben Scott and Nathan Ball.
Details of an Oxford Tour (which doesn't Tour) should be available soon with a first tournament probably mid to late April, £20 entry fee, matches probably best of 7 or best of 9.
Thank you Tom for organising another good event ... even though my involvement was embarrassingly brief thanks to another shockingly awful performance.
Interesting to see some of Oxford's mouthier players suffering from ... sign up ... shout out ... not turn up and phone off syndrome!
