Permalink Closed

For all existing players and our new successful trialists, it's the squad day this Sunday - 28th March

Be at Rileys for 11am, we will be handing out the players handbook, collecting everyones £10 subs, organising T-shirts, confirming contact details, notifying you of fixtures and then Playing some Pool!

I will also be placing a new hoody order - I know there are some existing players that would like a new one, and new players might as well!

I will have details available on the day, but if you want to know a bit more before then, please email me at nicola.hoskins@gmail.com or ring or text me on 07740 356398. Last year the standard price was £20, plus £5 for extras. I will try to keep the price the same for this year.

Hoodies are available to all squad members, not just ladies!

Nicki

Are we planning on the Black ball 5 tournament or the doubl eliminator signles ? I think the first is better as its gets people to socialise better. I do however think the draw should be seeded as follows

All youths in one pot, all men in another pot and all ladies in another pot.

Each team made up of of equal pots as far as possible to get the squads mixing....

Good idea beefy, plus the teams should be fairer. Unlike the last blackball fives tourny in which the teams were drawn about 5 times before people liked them!!

As Carrie is the new social rep, she is going to decide which comp we should run. I have talked through the options with her and she is going to decide before our meeting on Thursday Beefy.

As far as having equal team splits in the blackball 5's if I have a chance to look at the spread sheet before Sunday I will attempt to sort that out (it shouldn't be that hard). Failing that, I really can't see us bothering to write everyones name down and put it in a hat, especially as the day is supposed to be a bit of fun! If we have to randomise the teams several times until we get you and Gaygun together, we will.....

Anyways, you'll notice I hadn't announced specifically what fun pool comp we would be playing on Sunday on this thread yet - that was because we're discussing this at our meeting on Thursday Beefy!

I am open to suggestions for improvement to the Blackball 5s, but I think we thought before that this wouldn't necessarily result in even teams anyway, just extra hassle! There is a significant difference between the top youth/ladies and weaker youth/ladies, as I'm sure it is for the men, so even categorising it like you suggest doesn't guarentee to make the teams even.

Hi George,

This Sunday we will be running our Blackball County 5's event. This means we put everyones names in a hat (Mens, Ladies, Over 40's and Youth) and draw out random teams of 4 or 5. Normally we make the youngest member of each team the captain. Needless to say if the youngest member doesn't want to be captain they can pass it to the next youngest and so on.

Hopefully, we will have enough people to have 8 teams. If we do there will be 2 groups of 4 teams. Each team will play every other team in their group in a round robin format where each player will play one member of the other team over a single frame.

Once all the group games have finished the top 2 teams in each group will progress to the semi finals which may be played as a best of 3 depending on time.

The Champions and best individual player will receive trophies at a later date.

Normally we have charged people £5 (£3 for youth) to enter this tournament and handed out a small amount of prize money. This year we have decided not to charge for entry, so there will not be any prize money. If we manage to talk Rileys into providing some food there may be a small charge of £1 or £2 per person to accomodate this.

The reason we are running this tournament instead of a singles K/O is to help new members of the squad to get to know each other and the returning players from last year. In general, we have always had good feed back from this tourny in the past and hope that it will be a fun day for all who attend.

Youth teams A and B county squads?

The youth wont be split into A & B... Its a one-squad concept, and there will be movement up and down between the A and B team depending on how people do. You're all playing the same teams at the same time so results should be comparable.

I think Justine is finalising now who will start in which team, and she'll let you all know when she's decided.  However, its likely to be the case that generally players who were retained from last season will start in the A team, and new players who came through trials will start in the B

A big thanks to everyone who came to the squad day - it was a great success! We had 10 teams of people, the most ever, and although it was quite a long day I really enjoyed it - and met lots of our new players!

Very well done Carrie for running it all - she did an excellent job as our new social rep.

The winning team was:
Elliot Hooper
John Kinsey
Jojo Scoble
Stefan Trevelyan

And congrats to the best player on the day Adam Brown, who emerged from the playoff triumphant, edging out Max Emery, Mark Pitfield, Matty Challen and Peter de Banks.

Thanks Jaz.

Yes, Well Done to all those who took part. Although it was a long day it was great fun and good to meet everyone on the Squad.

The next social event will be a Bowling evening. Watch the forum for more information.

Carrie

I will ask around to see what people prefer but I did have Ten Pin in mind. Crown green is more suitable for the warmer months when you can get out in the fresh air. We can definitely look to do that over the summer if you want.

I think the warmer summer months should involve a comedy night.  Ben has clearly shown he's got the credentials to dust off the mic and make us all laugh... disbelief
