- First of all no result posted from the previous match - so as of yesterday I could have been playing either person
Question - I seem to remember in this situation the player who had contacted the comp secretary AUTOMATICALLY went at home in the next round - Ash any comments on previous years here ?
- I happen to see Matty Sunday and he said he had pulled out so I was playing the other person although the competition secretary said no one had communicated this as he said he was down as playiong a bye when he looked around the last date (Ash ???)
- Thanks to Julian I find out he plays for the Swan opposite Rileys
- I turn up at the venue only to find THERE IS A REARRANGED Mondy league match involving their other side !
By sheer chance the guy happened to be in the pub having a beer before going out for a meal but was unable to play last night as he knew nothing about it. The guy said I could have it but then started saying we could rearrange it. Apparently the captain was contacted but he said his captain had no contact and had being trying to sort it out.
All in all a complete mucking fuddle !
I am going to leave this one in the hands of the competition secretary to sort out - please advise asap so I can let the guy know. If I rearrange it I feel it should be at my venue given all of the above

I understand the bite from this kind of spider is quite deadly unless you are lucky enough to have an antidote with you.
Basically I knew that Matty had not gone to his match, but not until after it had happened. What I didn't know was whether his opponent had turned up. So, I tried to contact his team captain (the only contact I have from that pub), who eventually got back to me saying he would check and let me know. But he didn't and is not very easy to get hold of.
Keith contacted me asking what the state of play was, and so I replied that I hadn't heard from either player, but that I knew that Matty hadn't turned up. I also tried to contact the Swan captain again, but to no avail. So I advised Keith to go to the Swan and if the player was there expecting to play that the match should go ahead.
I then got a call from Keith about it, and it was obvious that the other player was only at the pub by chance and had not turned up to the previous match. He first said that "they" had told him that Matty had pulled out (he never revealed who "they" were, and as far as I'm aware Matty didn't communicate this), and then said that someone had told him that it said he had a bye on the website, which wasn't the case (and had never been the case).
I therefore concluded that he hadn't shown to the first one and wasn't there to play the second one and so that the match should be awarded to Beefy. I rang Ash to see his opinion and he agreed.
In hindsight I should have awarded the match to Beefy before he even turned up to the match due to not hearing from the player concerned within 48 hours of the first round. But if that was the case, some others of you would also have been kicked out, and so I thought I would give him the beneftit of the doubt! It also didn't help that the captain was fairly difficult to get a response from.
So, apologies to Keith. But the match has been awarded to you and you are playing Richard Day in the next round.
Draws to be up on the website in the next day or two - I am still missing a few results, as usual!!
Also, Malcolm - you said you would post your result on the forum. I have forgotten what it was (as I thought I might!), so could you let me know asap please?!

Quite right too - and apologies to Beefy for a wasted trip. I'm sure Mr Day will be turning up for your clash in the next round though!
The player concerned (and others that fail to show without any warning) will not be entering next year, as per the leagues rules. Sadly though, there'll no doubt be another equally unreliable player entering to take their place.

Not a great game to be fair, could of went either way but jamie come out on top in the end
Good luck in the final
Cheers mate, shame it didn't turn into the match it should of done, unfortunately conditions dictated how the game went and didn't really help either of us.
Jamey claimed his second Monday night singles title with a good win over Nathan in a topsy-turvy match that saw him go 2-0 up and then 2-3 and 3-4 down before delivering the goods. Well done mate!
