Having spoken to many people and having overheard a few conversations regarding this over the course of the season so far, I get the impression that the current scoring system (ie one point per frame) isn't very popular. Therefore, i'm asking all Abingdon League players what would be their preferred choice.........

Current system with 2 points for a win and a bonus point; awarded to winning team if scoring 10 or more or to losing team scoring 6 or more...

5x best of 3 matches with a point per winning frame ???
That way you only need 5 players in total which will probably then encourage more teams to enter ?
If not then maybe the same format?
Never going to happen.
The Abingdon has always had a format where you can have more than the bare minimum players to play, creating more people playing the game and having enough to cover holidays etc.

Should any change be proposed for the AGM I will present tables, based on this seasons results, showing how things would have looked using the different points systems suggested.

Well, there we have it..........the masses (well, 8 of us!) have spoken. Although I can't say for sure that this is representative of the opinion of everyone in the Abingdon League, the numbers here clearly show that 75% of the voters would like to see a different scoring system in place to the one we currently have.
So, how do I go about proposing a change to be voted on at the AGM? And when is the AGM anyway?
Edit: Now 9 votes, so that's 78% against the current system!

Send it to Kevin he is the secretary with minimum of 7 days notice........
Send what to Kev? A letter? An e-mail? Flowers with a message tucked inside?
How official does this have to be? Come on, Beefs......be a bit more helpful
Proposals to be emailed to me 7 days prior to the AGM (date TBC). They need to be proposed by one team and seconded by another.
Also helpful would be a brief explanation of the reasoning behind your proposal

Keys left in a tiz with 5 skeletons in the closet. Suffered at the hands of a teenager winning 3 and tomorrow he learns how to use a set square and petractor. So much for abingdon education.
He is offering lessons in how to play the white for those who r interested. Up the social

Ok, did anybody understand that? Didn't even post the score ffs...
Firstly this is the wrong thread though to post results in and secondly what the hell is a petractor? I've heard of a protractor though. So much for Kennington education.

Did you ask the home team to do something about it - before you started to change it yourselves ?
and in the mix of this the football lads had just won their leaue and didnt we know about it
Its a social club that they play for and to be fair they kept themselves to themselves, away from the table, ok they were singing but wouldn't you if you had just done what they did.
and you didnt help beefy by not getting out of the way when people wanted to take a shot.
Hold on a second I was SAT by the table under the television for most of the time except when SID talked me in to having a go on the machine by the jukebox. So r u saying I didn't move if someone asked me to ??????
Oh yeah maybe it was when they were short of players near the end to REF I was asked to cover one game whilst the other player went to the toilet

Did you ask the home team to do something about it - before you started to change it yourselves ? Yes we did ask home team but the young lads didn't know how to. and in the mix of this the football lads had just won their leaue and didnt we know about it

Did you obviously miss them squeezing past the table for a fag then??? Nudging players? and you didnt help beefy by not getting out of the way when people wanted to take a shot.

So r u saying I didn't move if someone asked me to ?????? Hold on you were stood by the machine talking to Trafford! And when I (Charli) needed you to move so I could play a shot you would not move. You would be the first to complain if this was you! Oh yeah maybe it was when they were short of players near the end to REF I was asked to cover one game whilst the other player went to the toilet
This is just a poor excuse. Come on Beefy you can do better than that!

I am so sorry we play in a venue with a bit of atmosphere!
I think the fact that after each of your players played in the last leg, they left straight away was appauling, plus the fact that when i played last, i went to the toilet, when i had come out, my opponent had already broke and played a couple of shots! Next time your team come to our venue, i shall tell them not to bother doing any food as none of you were left at the end of the match!

Sounds like another one of those good old friendly pool matches....
Once they stopped complaining about the table, the game was actually played in good spirits! Just their attitude towards the table and leaving as soon as they played is what stinks!

Anymore "off topic" postings and I'm gonna deduct 10 points (per post) off your teams total for this season and next...

OK then. I get the feeling that too many people would moan and groan about having too many players if the summer format was adopted, so it looks like the current system with 3 points for a win + bonus points is the one to go for........would any team second this proposal?

You'll be voting Yes in the upcoming voting referendum then!! Interesting way of interpreting the stats (11 whole votes!), to me it shows three equally popular formats. By your definition there will be at least 72.7% of people unhappy with whatever system is chosen!
Personally I dont see the benefit of changing the current system. The current system perfectly represents the seasons performances and allows continued changes throughout the season, thus keeping the season alive longer for more teams.
The bonus point idea, will not benefit teams who take big early leads, eg if a team goes 10 - 0 up there will be little incentive to keep playing for either team (except for personal priorities; most wins etc) This is where the current system works so well, being that no matter what the score is the 15th frame is just as important as any other frame through the season.
The summer league style is good for summer as there are less players wanting to play each week, whereas for the winter the current system gives much greater flexibility for teams wanting to play with just five or play with much bigger squads, as many of the lower league teams do.
Kev - I dont suppose I need to propose that we keep everything the same!!
