I guess the Demos won't be seconding me then, Paul
I completely agree with what you say about teams being 10-0 up etc and there being a possibility of recuced incentive.......but surely people don't need an incentive to win. Are there people who WANT to lose? Also, don't we all play in this league because we enjoy pool? If we were 10-0 down i'd still want to play regardless of whether we could win or not.
Anyway, you can argue the pros and cons of any of the proposed scoring systems. At the end of the day it's all down to personal preference. A person is going to vote for what they like the best. Personally, I don't favour a single system over all the others, I just don't like the current system. My reasoning is simple - with the current system you could have a team which hasn't won the most matches during the season walking off with the title. Or similarly, a team which won every game throughout the season could potentially end up finishing in second place, or even third. To me that's not right. Teams should be rewarded for consistently winning, not for just battering the weaker teams. The team which scores the most goals doesn't win the Premiership after all, it's points that count.
I cant speak for the rest of my team, but you certainly wont be getting it from me!!
Looking at the league tables there are only a couple of changes 3 points for a win would change, and it would have no impact on the league winners. (Not including your bonus points as I cant be arsed to work that out)
Commenting on the top two leagues as thats where we both play, the only change 3 points for a win would bring is the wheatseaf and Kennington A swapping round, and after playing kennington twice and the wheatseaf 3 times, my opinion is that the current league table reflects the teams in their order or how well they have performed (and their ability).
Is your suggestion just out of frustration as after about 8 games the keys would have been top if it was 3 points for a win?
How did I guess that you might think that was the reason
This isn't a case of sour grapes at all. What good would a different scoring system have done us this season? We'd still have finished fourth as you pointed out. I'm merely saying that this system has the potential to punish teams who consistently win but don't necessarily get many high scoring wins, whereas teams who score highly when they win but don't actually win a lot of their games will be rewarded without really having merited it................
This change isn't being proposed in the light of certain teams performances over the course of this season or anything like that. It's not supposed to be reactive, it's pro-active. If other people don't see it that way, well........that's their perogative.
