It'd make more sense if he made it next week as people would have a weeks notice and if posted to the various League Secretary's, they could advertise it on their website...
£10 for Best of 3 - have a look in the mirror.....

I agree the notice isn't brill but then it was me that said to Pom i'd put a post on here at short notice so even if it only gets a few people interested thats o.k.
Typical response from you Ming....forgetting its a charity event surley the fee doesn't matter i think you should look in the mirror!!
As usual, you miss the point. Its not the charity angle that I'm moaning about... if people really want to give to charity then they'll put their hand in their pocket.
But experience, and I've got a lot of it, tells me that most players (1) won't travel for a Best of 3 knockout (still £5 after the charity donation) (2) won't go to something they don't know about (3) Hardly anyone uses this forum on a Saturday...
There's 4 /5 Leagues in this area, most have websites and all have a email mailing list which the organiser of this event could have utilised.
I'm working so it's irrelevant to me either way, but if you're gonna run a pool tournament (for charity or not) try doing it properly or ask those with the experience and the means to promote it to help...
I'd have advised to run it during the day on a Sunday, that way you're not scrimping on the frames and maybe combine it with a League's organisation i.e The Abingdon League could run it, charge £2.50 (our usual fee) and donate £1.50 of entry fee to charity and use the other £1 to cover trophies/cash prizes. Considering we have 70+ entries for the forthcoming Summer Singles; on the basis of that number of entries, the charity would get £100+ Ask people to donate a raffle prize and perhaps the club could donate, say 50p, for every beer they sold and now you're approaching £200/£300.
You need 20 entries tonite to make the aforementioned £100 and I hope you get them, but it coulda been so much easier to do.
Now you see what I'm getting at... ?

Regardless of the angle your moaning at its more of a case of WHY your even having a moan anyway? Your not even going? Look. yes you may have the experience/knowledge/contacts whatever!? ....
Pom isn't running it & its not his tournament, he told me somebody asked him if they could run a tournament for charity at the oracle. Now they may have there own experience/knowledge/contacts that you have, but hey, we wouldn't know that would we .
When Pom mentioned it i suggested i could post it on the forum for the guy who was running it (who i dont know by the way), there's me thinking im doing a good thing & then you come along.
Now, if anybody wants to give money to charity, why not sponsor my brother and I who are attempting to cycle from one end of Britain to the other in 10 days, raising money for Parkinson'sUK. Just 3 weeks until we leave for John O' Groats. Just click on the link below.

I'm having a moan as, if organised more carefully, then you'd get more for charity...

I didn't mention Pom... you did...

Seeing as today's the first we've heard of it, its safe to assume he hasn't...

So your just posting it on behalf of a guy you don't know, what if he was a conman after my hard earned cash? Your orginal post implied it was being run by Pom...
Did you play? How many went?

It not my tournament. I suggested to Pom i could post the details on the forum for the guy with the intention of MAYBE attracting a couple more players!, you never know?.
Yes i agree with all on here that if they wanted alot of interest then advertising through various local leagues would of been a great idea.
I agree IF i was to run a pool tournament for any charity i would seek advise from people like yourself Ming but i wouldn't want the hassel to be honest, which is why i'd rather you run the pool comps Ming, your past organising of comps in the Abingdon league speaks for itself.
Lastly, i didn't go i was busy but i will find out the details & let you know how it went?

I know it wasn't your competition...
When did Pom mention it to you ?
No disrespect, but if Pom used his loaf then more people might've made it if he'd contacted people rather than just mention it to you, on Friday I assume ?
Then again the guy might only have asked him on Thursday....

Yes, in conversation over the bar, as far as i was lead to believe Pom was just asking people to come down & play?
TBH i hadn't even seen a poster or advert for it, even up the club? so it obviously wasn't well advertised & im guessing they wouldn't of got many entries for that reason alone! but that i will find out....
It's good that you have advertised on behalf of someone else, but it would have been more beneficial to find out who it was running it (for some people it may make a difference?) and also what rules the comp is being played to?
Considering a lot of people play in leagues on a Sunday night, not the best time to have it!

So you wouldnt give money to a charity because of you're dislike for the person running the tournament? Don't think there would be many people like that around...at least I'd hope not...
