Myself and Ming are looking to organise a couple of events in Oxford next year (obviously with the support of the local players).
We currently have two ideas for formats and would like your feedback on these.
1 - Three Man Team
This event would involve 3 players a team playing the same format as in the Thursday night league.
Each match would be over 18 frames though. One set of 9 to be played to BAPTO rules and the other 9 to be played to World Rules.
The captain winning the toss would decide which rules to be played first.
In the event of a 9-9 draw. The coin is tossed again with the winning captain selecting the rules for the 3 frame play off.
This would be a knock-out format, with entry fee around £30 per team.
2 - Champion of Champions
This is a singles event with the qualifying events being held at each venue in the Thursday night league (getting the pubs involved).
Each venue will hold a qualifying event from which 2 players per team in the league will qualify for the the Grand Final at Colours.
So The Osney with 1 team will have 2 players qualify, Colours with 4 teams will be allowed 8 qualifiers.
Players can only enter qualifying events from their home venue. (this will encourage each team to get involved).
The benefit of this is that the "better" players will have to play each other in their local event, leaving the door open for other players to make to the final stage.
The entry fee for this would be roughly £5 per player.
Feedback
Please give us your feedback on these ideas and also any others that you may have for competitions you would like to see locally.
The reason we are asking now, is that it takes a long time to set these events up and secure dates for the venue.
As always though, this can only happen with the support of the players and your response on this site.
I hope you get to do it as it sounds a good idea - would that be home and away in the team event !
The Team Event would be played at one venue on a single day. (no prizes for guessing where!).
If this event was a success, I would look into running a 3-Man Team event which was played over the year with Home and Away Legs in a knock-out format.
The only problem with this is with the amount of leagues that we all currently play in, getting suitable evenings to play this type of event is very difficult.
First time round we will go for a single venue knock out.
