As the county's social events rep it's my job to organise fun stuff for our squad. You will find all such events advertised here. Feel free to chuck in any ideas you have too, though I have quite a list to work through already...
There has been a shortage of pool so far this season so your up for it social events organiser Jaz has sorted a July pool event for the entirety of the county squad. We want everybody to come and get involved in this one as our whole squad has not been out in full force once yet this season. There is the first and best opportunity so far this season to get involved with the whole squad and to practice against players who will be playing at your side throughout the year.
Whichever of our county sides you play for this is a great chance for you. Show what you can do against players from all of our teams. Ladies, B players, Youth – got something you want to prove??? A players - comfortable enough to accept the challenge? Never was there a better opportunity to impress your captain or team mangers!
We’ve got a few new additions to the squads this year, and the competition below will be the perfect chance to get to know players you do not normally play with, and see how well you can perform against whichever county players you are drawn against. Largely the competition is meant to be fun, but of course, prize money and trophies are up for grabs! ALL proceeds will be distributed amongst the winners and runner ups.
Registration: 11.30 - 12.30, draw to take place 12.30 sharp, play to commence by 1pm.
Entry fee: Youth £3, Others £5
Teams will be drawn at RANDOM from a hat, resulting in mixed ability teams so it wont just be a case of watching the usual suspects thrash it out in the latter stages. Tables will be available from 12pm.
Each team will play each other in the group stage, short format of one frame each.
One point per frame during the group stage.
There will be a blind draw for each game.
Top four teams based on overall points will progress to the knockout stage.
Any ties will be decided based on the result between the teams concerned.
Knockout stage will be best of three between each pair of players, also with a blind draw. The winning team will be determined by total frame points (per Thurs League).
Prize money will be split approx 65:35 between the winning team and runners up.
Had a great day on Saturday, thanks to all of you who came. I certainly had a great day, if perhaps not as much winning for me as I would've liked! Hopefully the full stats will be available on the OCPF site sometime soon (when I've got around to it!)
The Best player trophy went to Matt Challen, after a play off between Matt, Ben Scott and Jimmy Cairns.
The five man team consisting of Laura Bentley, Matty Challen, Marcus Guise, Keith Hollis & Shaun Taylor won the team event. Congratulations!
If anyone has any general comments, or constructive crititicism, or any futher suggestions please feel free to post below.
The next item on my list of events is likely to be a night at the Dog Track or possibly Bowling. Watch this space for futher information, once a date has been decided.
The next county event has been arranged!! See advert below for details. Any questions, contact me! This is our first non-pool related county event and is a good oppurtunity to mingle with all the other teams and generally have a merry time. I have it in mind this could become an annual feature of the county calender, if enough enthusiasm is shown. See you all there!!!
Just a reminder that it's the county dogs night THIS FRIDAY!
I gave out vouchers to all at the county game yesterday, anyone still wanting to come who wasn't in attendence, please e-mail me with your address/txt ASAP (details above) and I will get a voucher to you.
Looks like it is going to be a top night with loads of us there, bring it on!
Did anyone's luck suck any harder than ours last nite?
Jimmy/Lauren 12 races, 2 seperate dogs each race............................no winners
Ah Jimmy did some not tell you the Hare always wins !
Here's a tip for next time you go watch the bookies at the front and bet the two favourites on the tote system as the return is usually better for the favourites as the tote favourite is simply the dog with the most money on it. The bookies generally have a good feeling for the dogs that can run in any given race.
Another tip bet place bets instead of win bets, you have more chance of getting something back but not as much obviously as the return has to cover 2 positions instead of 1. Place bets can come 1st or 2nd so you should get at least one paying finish each time picking two dogs thus returning you stake. Get both of them and it happy days
Must admit I usually bet Forecasts 1st and 2nd which costs you £2 per race but returns inexcess of £10 usually per bet. Get 2 right and your covered for the night. Oxford has a habbit of 5 and 2 coming in together and 1 and 4. Watch for W next to the dogs because this means it runs wide on the bends so 5/6 no good if the 4 dog has a W next to it unless they are quick out of the traps. I have often thought of place betting both though as 1 nearly always comes in the forst 2 but getting both is the tricky part.
Sounds like a good night shame I could not make it this time What was the track like with all that rain the night before ?

This was a good laugh last year, hopefully it will be even bigger and better this time with our new larger squad.
A huge well done to Jaz Venning for a very good day of fun.
Well done to the winning team of the day, Winning the final 8-7 (thursday rules), Winning by a final frame shoot out after the game finished 7-7. After being 1 frame from going out in the league stage.
Runners Up, Jaz, Alex, Jamie, Adam and Keith
Winners, Andrew Gee, Ben Scott, Mark Harrison, Steve Lakeman and Sean Ling. Well done to Sean for winning the winning frame that got us to the Semi final and then winning the final frame after Alex was unluckey with a ball bouncing out of the pocket.
It was a great day with some cracking matches. JFK thanks for the £5 bet you offered me when drawn to play Sid. I am sure if you were sober you would have not have bet me or were you trying to distract me ?????
From what Tim said Alex came foul of the "Supreme Tables" jinx when balls come back out of the pockets for no reason.
Ironic really the two teams finished 1 & 2 played 4 and 3 respectively and both lost. All I can say is Ben's Team used their get out of Jail card to the full. Peter De banks would have knocked em out had he not snookered himself in the final frame of the round robin against Sean.
So close to the double after being on the winning team last year. The random draw really did come out evenly balanced this time round in my opinion.
Well done to Adam getting 4/4 in the round Robin after missing a black in my final game against Smithy to also have 4/4.
A long day but very entertaining day it was just a shame I had to dive off at 6.45 to play a doubles match so missed the end of the final.
Jaz are you going to give Ash the results so he can post them on the web somewhere with stats for the day of all those that played ?

I thought the youth played particularly well - looking good for the nationals!
Anyone know where the Natureboy was? I heard a rumour he was cooking rhubarb crumble...
Nick
I agree with you Nick I had Jamie and Adam in my team and both played well. Jamie is really benefiting from playing league pool on Sundays and Thursdays.
I suspect Nature boy was out on the farm somewhere in Charlgrove

Thanks to all who came!! I had a super day... tho my pool could've gone better (as the stats will show...) My team put up a really tough fight to the finish, only to lose out at the very last hurdle. Bummer.
Those who didn't come missed out - I haven't had that much fun in ages. The committee were certainly quite merry (not me for once!). I think Mr Chairmen, Mr County Manager and Mr B2 Team Manager eventually tottered home more than a little worse for wear, having being most *amusing/irritating (*delete as appropriate) throughout the day.
Trying to get reults posted up here... watch this space.

I also had the biggest telling off on the day from the Minx, fully deserved, I must say.
I also forgot to say thanks to my team, As I had 1 of the worst records of the day with only 1 win in 6 matches, I was that bad they stuck me against the Dishwasher in the Semi to give the team a chance of winning the match. Losing that game 2-1 to pick up my only other frame of the day.
Thanks to all who turned out for the bowling on Friday. I certainly had a good night, and who'd've thought we had such impressive bowlers in our midst!
Well done to Matty for geting the highest game score, and to Nicki who I think did best over the two legs.
My own bowling talent was conspicuous by absence...

And we can't fail to mention that Jackie beat Tim either!! (sorry Tim...)
Thanks to Jaz for organising a great night, I'd definitely be up for it again!!
