Can you confirm wether it's a £1000 prize fund or a guarenteed £1000 to the winner, as the poster you keep sending contradicts itself.

I'm in anyway, me and 6 other so far....................................................

According to the poster it's "Guaranteed first prize of £1000 and prizes for second and third to be determined."

Surely it should say for runner up and losing semi finalists?

But my point is Queenie is that the poster says one thing in the small print and another on the main £1000 headline. Even this topic says £1000 Prize Fund.

I'll email the details to other interested people if i find out which is correct

I have spoken to john regarding the confusion of the above question.

He GUARANTEES £1000.00 to the winner and runner up will receive some sort of prize money to be determined by what sort of sponsorship he can get. It may be just club vouchers.

Please Note: Their will be no prizes for losing semi finalists. SORRY

Preliminary and 1st round losers can enter a 2nd competition and all money raised through this will be paid out to the winner and winner only. This will cost £5.00 to enter.

So not really a very good comp then if only the winner is guaranteed money!

Where is all the money from the entries going to ?

May be wrong here but seem to remember seing something about 64 entries @ £10 so I would hazzard a guess the runner up gets £640....

Personally I would have thought it better to break that down so the last 16 get something back.

Say

£160 R/UP

£80 * 2 S/F = 160

£40 * 4 Q/F = 160

£20 * 8 Last 16 = 160

Total £640 but I wreckon my first guess is closer to the mark with all going to R/Up.

Now which one of beefy or millhouse is the cabbage.

Rileys have quaranteed the winner £1000.00

firstly if they get the 64 entrants they still have to find £360.00 now where is that coming from. most clubs make let say 50% from beer sales to me they will have to take £720.00 behind the bar to break even. and thats not taking into account staff wages.

secondly if their is not 64 entries i reckon rileys could end up losing quite alot of money (i.e) 32 entries = £320.00 leaving £680.00 to find = £1360.00 in bar sales dont think so. The average person will spend at least £10.00 rileys could end up losing a grand.

They have said this ! Why should it come from the entry fees - thats the idea of sponsorship.

What you are saying below implies they are only giving a small percentage in sponsorship so therefore they are not sponsoring the event in my opinion.

Firstly if they get the 64 entrants they still have to find £360.00 now where is that coming from. most clubs make let say 50% from beer sales to me they will have to take £720.00 behind the bar to break even.

Sorry mate but this is an irrelevant cost as they will be paid regardless of the competition being staged or not.

secondly if their is not 64 entries i reckon rileys could end up losing quite alot of money (i.e) 32 entries = £320.00 leaving £680.00 to find = £1360.00 in bar sales dont think so

The average person will spend at least £10.00 rileys could end up losing a grand.

Get real its over two days that means the average person will be there for at least Saturday because they can only play 5 matches at a time (10 people) so I reckon at 64 people thats 32 matches (at least 6 on a table). Unless they are going to be best of 3 which really isn't in there interest if they want bar sales they will be lucky to complete the first 2 rounds.

48 matches are required with a comp of 64 even at best of 5 (24 in a 32 entry comp) each match will be likely to run for 45 minutes on average so thats 2160 mins of table time on 5 tables = 432 mins on each or 7 hours 12 minutes.

If they only get 32 its simple increase the matches to best of 9 to double the match time, keeps people there for the full 7 hours again - its not rocket science.

How much money do you reckon they will take over that period of time given most people will be there for the day. I would suggest at least 10 drinks per person so thats 640 drinks and they must make a £1 a time.

BTW people have to eat as well so thats more money.

Can't see how they can not fail to cover the £1000 over the two days !

Sorry but this reminds me of a certain venture the county persued with Rileys about sponsorship before and the only ones that gained from that were Colours at a lot of time and effort from the county committee.

Sponsorship is meant as a free donation or a speculative Gamble and providing they get the right number ie 64 they will easily cover there outlay and besides if they don't just increase the match frames that keeps people there to.

I went to a comp over at the Oracle one Saturday started at 6pm and finished at around midnight and there were only 16 entries then.

The matches were best of 9 to keep the people there and it worked to !

Who's the cabbage now then ?

Still you beefy

I guess that you will not be entering then?

The figures i gave are estimates, of course rileys will take more money over the bar over 2 days let face it rileys are not stupid are they how many clubs have they around the conntry.

Look players who think they can win will just look at the £1000.00 to the winner their not worried where the monies coming from and if they dont win what will they get.

Its players like you who think they may get to the last 16 and get their money back.

This is advertised around all the rileys clubs players will be coming from all over.

If you have 64 players, you need 63 matches if it's a straight knockout.  Each match produces 1 loser.  You need 63 losers to find the overall winner.

Same goes for 32 players, you need 31 matches to find a winner.

I know that mate the no of matches is always one less than the number of entries, I was simply making a point that with that many matches most people would be there all day Saturday.

If there are people coming from everywhere then Jules you probably right the last 16 would probably be realistic.

I think you will find that there are a lot of players that feel the same way I do that unless they have an extrememly good day and the balls run for you they will not win either and this will put lots of people off that otherwise would like to go if they feel they have a chance of winning a few matches to make a few quid

Do they want to fill the draw or not ? I am begining to wonder

Sorry, of course if they split the event over two days you might 48 matches one day and 15 the next.

Has the entry fee just gone up for Beefy? Or have you got your facts wrong yet again?

Have to say, i actually agree with Beefy here hic! (must be still drunk from new year). If only the winner and runner-up are guarenteed money then alot of people will not enter as they will feel that they have very little chance of winning anything.

In my opinion, it would have been better to have had a guarenteed £1000 prize fund, with the winner getting £500, runner-up 200, semi-finalists £100 and quarter-finalists £25. This way you'll entice lesser players to enter. Obviously if Rileys wanted to increase their financial input, then you could increase the amounts.

Once again Beefy, you seem to want your cake and eat it. Rileys are a business, you'll get a minimum of £360 and free tables (£5 p/h X 5 tables = £25 p/h x 12 hours = £300), also don't forget that the £360 will increase by £10 for every entrant less that the 64 required.

Now of course you'll argue that not all the tables would have been used all day in normal circumstances, which is true. Equally true is the fact that Rileys may make very little money from bar sales from 1st Round losers who may only be there for an hour whilst getting a 4-0 drubbing.

Any amount of sponsorship is better than none at all. The only valid arguement you have is the spread of the prize money.

Me.............................i'm only in it for the money Money 2

Some sensible comments there Ming.  Your in it for the money is also a fair comment as you are one of the few people who would actually stand a chance of winning it.

I've just heard a rumour that this may be played at another Oxford venue due to the size at Cowley. Can anyone confirm this?

 Trigger Happy Greetings Infidels,

So you zionist dogs wish to make a donation to my welfare fund. If your now short of a venue to play your competition, my friends in Kabul will allow you to hold it in the Great Mosque (no shoes, shorts or footie shirts)

Fortunately for you, Al Qaeda’ s number one pool player "Saddam" passed away a couple of weeks ago. However, i've had lots of practice in my nice pool cave (amazing what you can buy on ebay).

I do hope ladies are allowed to enter the competition (makes it easier for me to attend in my disguise).

Praise be to Allah

After speaking to the manager at Rileys last night, it seems the competition could be played at Colours on the Saturday till the quarter finals then finished at Rileys on Sunday. This being because Rileys don't have enough tables or the room to host this.
