This event will now be played at COLOURS and will now be played on the following SATURDAY & SUNDAY 24th & 25th FEBRUARY 2007 instead of the 17th & 18th this is down to the numbers that have entered and rileys feel that the venue is to small and not enough tables to host such an event.

Greetings infidels.......................
So once again you zionist dogs couldn't run a run a piss-up in a brewery.
Ha Ha Ha! and you expect to bring democracy to my friends but you can't run a pool tournament, what a joke you are................
So...................Riley's haven't got enough tables, Colours only have 6, or are you seriously telling me that you're going to use the 2 crap tables as well. Please tell me you're not.......
Why the change of date? What's on at Colours on the 17th/18th?
Surely if there's too many entries, you could use both venues on the Saturday and one venue on the Sunday?
Riley's 5 tables, Colours 6 (decent) tables, so 1 table advantage by using Colours
Are you a BAPTO organiser in disguise?
Still, the new dates suit my colleagues anyway, gives us more time to practice in the tournament's final venue, The Osney Arms, and the soon to be installed, new SUPER IMPROVED (even T. Williams can win on it), "Afgan - USAF A10 Tank Buster proof - Speed Cloth" as used by the US military when not murdering (sorry, friendly fire, i believe it's called)your own troops.
Must go now, the C.I.A are tracking my dial-up connection (oh how i wish we had broadband)
Praise be to Allah

Wait for it - it will be on the 3rd and 4th of March next when half the players that might enter will be in Selsey at county finals !

Down goes the prize money once again then !

Oh and you think you could do better then do you ? They have secured sponsorship which is first for pool comps in Oxford. Your so big and bold with your comments hiding behind an alias - maybe you should run a comp before taking the piss out of other peoples efforts.
So...................Riley's haven't got enough tables, Colours only have 6, or are you seriously telling me that you're going to use the 2 crap tables as well. Please tell me you're not.......
Scared about playing on those tables then, a good player should be able to win on any top so are you good or scared !

Good question there is no Balackball county matches !
Surely if there's too many entries, you could use both venues on the Saturday and one venue on the Sunday?

Now that is the first sensible comment you have made so far and it also seems the obvious solution to me. Top half at one venue, bottom half at another but need to publish the draw before the date to do that and that means no late entries !
Are you a BAPTO organiser in disguise?
I doubt it they don't exist anymore only Blackball or World Rules
Still, the new dates suit my colleagues anyway, gives us more time to practice in the tournament's final venue, The Osney Arms,
Now I have heard it all and find it quite amazing that Rileys are allowing this given they are putting up the sponsorship money. Maybe they should approach Bar Billiars for one of their match tables to be reclothed and kept back for the final match

I find this a really strange comment. How many did they expect to turn up when offering prize money of that magnitude ??? Surely they would have known they couldn't accomodate 64 players from the beginning ???

I am not going to waste my breath on some stupid has been. Your comments are so childish bin laden get a life.
Anyway over to the more important stuff.
It has been decided by people above me that the prize structure will change as well instead of £1000.00 to the winner it will now be as follows.
1st £500.00 2nd £250.00 3rd and 4th £75.00 5th 6th 7th 8th £25.00 TOTAL PRIZE FUND £1000.00
Jimmy has quaranteed this reguardless of entries and is trying to secure more money in the form of club vouchers. If Succesful the extra vouchers will be shared as folows 1st £50 club cash, 2nd £50 club cash, 3rd and 4th £25 club cash, 5th 6th 7th 8th £25 club cash
This of course will be on top of any money won
I hope this clarifys the situation and any person who has issues with this should direct their comments to the people who are in charge i am only promoting it on behalf of the thursday league and is part of our sponsorship deal
I agree this is much better and will tempt the lesser ability players now as well becuase a little luck in the draw getting to the last 8 is only 2 matches won and your in the money !

Below is a list of players who have entered the tourament.

Some good names there. My money would be on one of Daniel Davy, Keith Brewer, Jimmy Millar or Emperor Ming to win it - unless I've missed any other superstars?
Barney wrote: Yeah I can't make it unfortunately so I guess one of those might win it....
That's a pity. No beefy either and i was so looking for an easy 1st round match

Rab Weir, current County Singles Champion
Tim Williamson, as long as he don't meet Nathan in the 1st Round
Hopefully i'll be on of the last out of the hat. So i've time for pre-match practice.

Sorry to say it, but it looks like the big prize could be going to someone from outside the area!
If they are on their game, it is very difficult to see past Brewer and Davy to do the damage.
After playing in the same team as Keith at Minehead and seeing him win every game (even against his fellow pros), when in form this guy is nearly unbeatable!
It is all on the day though!
Local players capable of beating the top players on their day (in no apparent order):
Isty (always a good big event player) Jimmy Millar (in form can clear the table from anywhere) Nathan (as seen in Selsey can hold is own with the top players, even after a few diesels!!) Tim Williamson (enjoys the big events and has the game) Kev McIlroy (player in good form with the safety advantage over those named above)
Good luck to all, unfortunately I wont be able to make it, but might try and pop in to show some support!

Hi Lee
It's a shame you're not coming down (work or family?), would have been cool to catch up.
Can't see Tom's name on the list either? What happened to him? He's already proven he can beat the big names
PS - How's the Yarmouth 3 man campaign going? I presume you're playing in Tom's team out of Colours, noticed you were drawn against the Carterton boys...
PoolQueen wrote: Keith Brewer also won't be able to make it as the date has changed.
Huh? Why not? He couldn't have made it last weekend as he was playing in the European Championships, wasn't he? or is it still going on?

The Europeans started Monday so he'd of stayed at mine Saturday night and driven to the Euros Sunday after the comp. He'll be going up North after the Euros which finish Friday as he has exhibitions sorted up there.
Yeah, shame I can't make it, would of been nice to catch up with a lot of people!
Unfortunately Family and Work both take president over this event!
We are playing the Carterton team in a couple of weeks I think. Could be a tough game, but with Tom Weeks and Ming in the team, hopefully I will just be along for the ride!
It is a shame that Brewer isn't going now, I am sure that alot of the local players would of liked the opportunity to play him (win or lose!). It's not often you get the chance to take on the big names in the game.
Good luck again to all those playing. Hope to join you all for a pint at some point!

They think it's all over - IT IS NOW(Kenneth "LUCKY" Wolstenhome)
What no results up here yet - you guys are slacking! Hope no one minds if I nudge things along...
I arrived in time to see Ben Scott squeeze out Nathan Ball 4-3 to seal his place in the semi final, sending him the same way as his Berkshire/Demos team the previous day ;o)
So Semi final line up of:
Ben Scott v Tom Weeks
Brian Higgins (Warwichshire) v Mark Preist (Berkshire)
Both matches looked close, Ben and Brian drawing first blood. Brian's safety play seemed to have Mark on the hop, settling into a reassuring 2-0 lead. We then saw Mark Priest boost into turbo, and win 7 on the trot from 2-0 down to slide comfortably 5-2 into the final.
On the other table Tom was going for every clearance oppurtunity, and Ben was pouncing when he missed. It almost looked like Tom's attack was to be his downfall, but a cracking length of the table double from Tom kept him from being 2-0 down at the start. Instead 1-1, then 2-2 and looking like it could be anybody's game - simply a case of who got to the table first! Tom upped his game though, cutting out the single mistake in his clearances that had lost him the early two frames, and with barely a foot wrong from his opponent (we'll let you off the in-off in your final frame Benny...) Tom also made his way into the final 5-2
The final
Sadly guys I didn't stay for the final - someone else will have to fill in the gaps there. I am reliably informed though that the final score was
Thats a fiar summary Jaz, I did not watch too much fo the finals as I got roped into be a ref in the plate final
Matty Challen v Lawrence Plant (Who knocked out myself and Julian in earlier rounds)
Final score was 2 v 4 meaning Oxford came second in both finals but at least I can say I was beaten in the respective competitions by the winners, Mark Priest at the last 32 stage who was on the holy water during Saturday and to be fair I was half cut by 5pm when we played but I did have chances so won't use that an excuse.
The Plate final was running very close at 2 - 2 but with 3 of the 4 breaks the player had put the white in to hand his opponent an open table. It was interesting as two of the Warwickshire C team did well Brian Higgins (main comp) and Lawence Plant (plate).
Good competition and hopefully Jimmy will hold more in the future
